Israeli Spiritual Jewelry Artist Shares the Feeling of Living Under Growing War Threats

My name is David Weitzman and I live in the central region of Israel. In the last few months, the threats of war have become real and vivid. Not a day goes by without hearing talks from our leaders or the leaders of Iran regarding the bombing of the nuclear facilities. Israel’s intelligence are quoted on the need to strike in Iran and the great danger of Iran holding nuclear weapons. Even the leaders of Europe and Japan have decided to stop buying oil from Iran apparently because they agree about the dangers of nuclear bomb in Iran’s hands.

From east we have Syria with its civil war. Expert say that Assad may attack Israel to unite his own people. Another deadly threat is Syria’s chemical weapons that may fall into the wrong hands. In Lebanon, Hezbollah is getting armed with thousands of missiles and is acting as a front base for Iran. In the South, Egypt new leaders are coming close to Iran and Hamas and the future of the peace agreement is not clear.

I live and work in the center of Israel where the missile attacks would most likely be concentrated.  With my wife and two daughters, the possibility of war is even more alarming for me.

The Government is seriously preparing us for that eventuality. We receive mailed booklets from the Government on what to do in case war breaks out, in addition, we were urged to replace old gas masks and prepare food for shelters. These indicators of a pending war are nerve-racking to people, especially to us, families with children.  We wait helplessly, unable to do anything significant to avoid, much less prevent it.

My biggest frustration comes from knowing that most people want peace and quiet but small groups promote wars, holding us prisoners of terror and fear.

At times like this, when I am almost powerless to control the things that are happening in my country, I try to focus on the here and now and reflect on the fact that this, too, shall pass.

One of the things that helps me the most is knowing that my work is actually the right thing to do from global perspective. Sending good vibes of harmony, inner peace and unity to the four corners of the world is my way of strengthening what is good in this world, devoid of conflict and anger.

A Syrian girl contacted me through Facebook and sent me a friend request. After accepting her as a friend, I wrote to her asking if she knew I was an Israeli. She replied that she was neither narrow-minded nor prejudiced.  Life is too short for us to hate!
