Local Group of Music Production Schools Volunteers Time at School Plays This Holiday Season

The holiday season is almost upon the world. That typically means beautiful lights, music, and lots of gift giving, but one group of music product schools is turning the holiday season into a time to volunteer.

“We have decided to gather together and give our time to local schools”, said Sammy Hill, a student at one of the music production schools. “I remember being a child and being really excited for my school’s holiday production. I just want to bring that joy to other children.”

The group of students, who call themselves ‘Angels of Song’, are volunteering their time at over 20 elementary schools and childcare centers across the area. The students will lend their music production skills, which include recording, broadcasting, and audio projection, to the schools’ holiday shows.

“Our goal and mission is to brighten up the holiday season just a little bit”, said Hill. “I think that is what we are doing. We are using our talents and giving people exactly what they envision a holiday production.”

The idea for the project came about during a class project. The students were asked by the instructor to plan and produce an entire play for the school. When the students gathered, they started sharing memories about plays they were in as a child.

“It was amazing how many of us remembered our school’s holiday show”, said Tammy Underwood, a student at the music production schools who is focusing on audio engineering. “We were talking about how the schools are unable to put on plays like they used to due to budget cuts and that is when we came up with the idea for the group.”

Many schools are cutting back on unnecessary expenses, such as recording or audio broadcasting the school plays and production. This is an effort to save money. The students who are volunteering their time are saving the schools over $5,000.

“I really want the students to have DVDs and such to look back on what they used to do as a child”, said Underwood. “What we are giving them is a gift of memory. The best part is, all it took was the skills we are learning in school. There is really no other effort on our part. It is just one way we can give back to the community.”

It is estimated that over 20 schools/childcare centers have signed up to have the students help them with their holiday productions.
