Local Internet San Francisco Company Makes Tracking Santa into a Covert Operation for Children

Children who had parents who subscribed to a local Internet San Francisco company were able to turn tracking Santa into a cover operation. Parents were given the ability to sign their child up to become ‘Santa Spies’ and the Internet company went all out to give children the full spy experience.

“I remembered when I was a child, I would sit and watch the news at 6 and 10 to see where Santa was”, explained Michael Shaw, the creative director for this project. “Today, the technology is so sophisticated that children can really have fun with the whole tracking Santa project.”

The children who were signed up for the project received a mysterious package approximately a week before Christmas. This package contained a link to a viral video from Santa. The video encouraged children to help him on his quest to make sure that they got across the globe safely.

“Of course, Santa reminded children that he needed them in bed before he got to their region”, said Shaw. “That gave them a bedtime and helped parents prepare for Christmas.”

The project was launched by the Internet San Francisco company and was able available on desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets. Children were following video links, posting on forums, and chatting in ‘real time’ with Santa’s elves to help on the quest.

“We had a wonderful time setting up the software for the kids to use”, explained Shaw. “We even had people volunteering to be Santa’s elves. These people would video chat and help guide the children on their quest. It was a lot of fun.”

All of Santa’s elves were properly dressed for the occasion. Video chat was available, but not all kids were using it. Some just choose to play the games and track Santa. The whole project was such a success that some requests from other countries even came in to the Internet San Francisco company.

“We had parents asking us from other countries if we had a version for their child”, said Shaw. “We didn’t. Unfortunately, we only made a project for the local children but we may expand it next year. We had over 3,000 children taking part in it and they all had so much fun. We hope to have more next year. It will take more planning, but our goal is to help children all over the world create memories that will last a lifetime for the holidays.”
