Surprised Search Engine Users Taken on Amazing Treasure Hunt with New Campaign by Local Search Marketing Seattle Firm

Imaging typing something into a search engine, but instead of getting a regular search result page a map appears. That is the exact situation several individuals in the Seattle area found themselves facing this past month.

“It was really weird”, said Katie Raven, a resident of Queen Anne. “I was searching for a new recipe for this coming holiday season and up popped a map. I didn’t know what it was all about, so I tried the search again and it popped up again.”

The map detailed the start of a treasure hunt. It gave the individual a set of directions and a little riddle to solve. All the maps received by the individuals were the same.

“I was really shocked at first”, said John Major, a college student who resides in a suburb of Seattle. “I didn’t know what to think of it, but something told me to follow the map. That was when I gathered some friend and we went on an amazing adventure.”

“We knew people would be curious”, explained the CEO of the firm, who wished to remain anonymous. “People see a treasure map and something inside them just screams ‘follow that map’. We wanted to get people excited and joining in on the fun.”

The firm used a type of software that is similar to hijack software to create the pop ups. It would only appear for certain searches and would be available for a limited time.

“We had to create this entire campaign with the thought that maybe one in 10 people would follow the map”, said the CEO. “We didn’t want hundreds of people following it, but we didn’t want only one person. There would be no fun in that.”

It is unclear what the treasure hunt held for those that took part in it. The people that have taken part in the adventure have been quoted as saying that it was ‘fun’ and ‘adventurous’, but it appears as if the people were asked to sign confidentiality agreements.

“We plan on doing this again soon in the same area”, said the CEO. “I do not want people knowing what the end result is, so I asked participants to keep a little mystery to the hunt. That is what they are doing.”
