Fight! Fight! Fight! Local Music Production Schools Get Opportunity to Work with Major Sports Teams

College sport teams often use ‘fight’ songs as a way to increase fan participation at a game. It is also used as a way to pump up the crowd and get them excited for a game. Some major professional sports teams have themes and chants, but most do not. That is about to change.

Representatives for several major sports organizations are getting together with the teachers and deans at local music production schools and offering them a rare opportunity. That opportunity is to create a catchy, fun fight song for the sports teams.

“We are always on the lookout for ways to enhance the fans’ experience at the games”, said a representative for a soccer organization that is based out of England. “One way is to encourage fans to chant or sing-a-long to something. That is where the fight songs will come in.”

The students at the local music production schools will get the opportunity to create the songs. They will have to write lyrics, find singers/groups to record it, and then physically record the songs. However, this is an opportunity for them to put their skills to great use and build their resume.

“Our school jumped at this opportunity”, said Gill Gallows, a dean for one of the major groups of music production schools based out of New York City. “We have multiple sports fans amongst our students. We also love providing our students with opportunities to gain real world experience. This provides a unique opportunity for everyone to enjoy what they are doing.”

One of the biggest concerns about this type of project was how the teams would be represented in the songs. Most major professional sports teams are very careful with their public image. That was solved with a few stipulations placed on this type of opportunity.

“Students will be asked to list their favorite sports teams”, explained the dean. “They will then meet with marketing reps from the sports organizations they are working on a song for. This allows them to see what they need to do and what type of image they will need to create.”

The project for creating sports fight songs for major professional sports teams will not start until May. The project is expected to take anywhere from four to seven months. Teams are planning on unveiling their fight songs at the season openers for their teams.

“It really will be fun to see the fans’ reaction to the songs that we have created”, said one of the students picked for the project. “It will be so amazing.”
