New York April 4, 2014 – The National Conference on Jewish Affairs (NCJA), an umbrella group of Jewish leaders from around the country, and one of the co-sponsors of next week’s anti-BDS rally at UJA headquarters, has heard from the anti-BDS group JCCWatch that there is pressure being put on Rabbi Elie Abadie from members of the Jewish community.
Rabbi Abadie, head of one of New York’s leading congregations, had called on synagogues this week to pull out of the Salute to Israel Parade if BDS supporters are permitted by the UJA and JCRC to march.
Beth Gilinsky stated today: “We urge Jewish leaders and groups to publicly support Rabbi Abadie’s initiative.
“This parade controversy is not simply about who is marching in some New York City parade. It is about knowing who is standing up to be counted against the Arab BDS-movement, as opposed to who is promoting and enabling BDS-supporting groups.
“Pressure from ‘our fellow Jews’ on those who publicly and courageously stand with Israel unfortunately is nothing new in our community.
“At this time, perhaps more than any time since the beginning of the Holocaust, when anti-Semitic violence and anti-Israel hatred are on the rise across the globe, we call on Jewish leaders to be just that – LEADERS – and show some backbone: stand with Israel against the scourge of the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel Arab BDS movement, which, dehumanizes Jews, demonizes Israel, and, sadly, some dishonorable Jewish groups support.”
The rally will take place next Tuesday in front of the UJA Building in Manhattan. The sponsoring organizations of that rally are JCC Watch, AFSI, Z Street, Jewish Action Alliance, National Conference on Jewish Affairs, Endowment for Middle East Truth, Americans for Peace and Tolerance, Ha-Emet, Coalition for Israel, and National Council of Young Israel.
