Lost Legions of Rome Found!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

“Quinctillus Varus, give me back my Legions!”

Perhaps the most famous utterenace in ancient Roman history and attributed to Augustus; this upon receiving the head of Varus and knowing that it was all true, that he had lost his general and three of his Legions in the wilds of Germania.

It is written that for days afterward the normally stoic Emproer wandered the halls of his palace, banging his head upon the walls and repeating this anquished command, over and over…

Give me back my Legions!

Above, Phalera II, or “Mu Epsilon,” representing the 17th Legion commanded by Quinctillus Varus. Manufactured between c. 41 BC  and 9 AD, lost to Arminius in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, 9 AD.

Well, Augustus, here they are: Three Legions borrowed, three returned. Not the same Legions, but one out of three ain’t bad, right? I mean, this counts as the “original band” in the music biz, eh?

Of course, even if Augustus were here today, I couldn’t offer him even one of the actual Legions lost in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, but rather, what may be a significant relic of one, of the 17th, and its long-lost symbol; this on a helmet boss possibly taken from the decapitated head of Varus, himself!

Mu Epsilon is just one of the Venetian Phalerae, a collection of three, recently discovered, perfectly intact ancient Roman military phalerae slated for XRF analysis next month at the Getty Villa; this under the auspices of Dr. D. A. Scott, archeological metallurgist and professor of art history at UCLA, who is also affiliated with the Getty Museum: largest repository of ancient Roman artifacts in the United States.

Don’t let the amazing condition of this object fool you. Go to ourcelithia.info and look at its reverse, also note the patina on the reverse of Phalera I, exhibiting great antiquity. Take a look at all my data, photos, read my theories concerning the Venetian Phalerae, and draw your own conclusions!

I say the evidence strongly suggests these are war trophies, each significanrt in its own right, collectively representing all three of the major military defeats of the Roman Army at the hands of the Celts: Nothing less than possible hard evidence, of the legendary Lost Legions of Rome.

‘Fraud, find, or some sort of prize out of a box of Roman Crispies?”

You decide.

      Celts I think not…fake.

Wow! Sounds great except for one thing: Varus lost to Hermann of the Teutons – not to some Celtic tribe on the left side of the Rhein. Right Legion, wrong victor.
