Vembu Technologies: Announcing Vembu BDR v2.0 with Application Aware

Addison, TX 30 OCT 2014 VEMBU TECHNOLOGIES:  Vembu, a leading provider of affordable software and cloud services, is pleased to launch Application Aware Backups to IT Community as a feature of Vembu BDR v2.0. It is specifically designed  for disk image and VMware backups.

Vembu has provided support for Microsoft SharePoint, MS-SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange Server. The Application Aware option can be used to process VMware and Advanced Disk Images backups types. This enables you to backup application databases consistently. This option will alert users if any glitch occurs during the initial stage of the backup. Application Aware works with the help of Vembu BDR’s tight integration with Microsoft’s API calls. The Microsoft API allows VSS writers to take ownership of snapshot creations and make the database consistent while securing the valuable user database information. Application Aware will check the VSS writer’s stability before taking the database snapshot and once the snapshot is taken, the log purging process will be initiated by the appropriate writers. So by this process the Vembu BDR facilitates an IT manager by ensuring the skipping of applications in inconsistent states. This option will be most helpful in virtualized environments to keep the most free space in Exchange servers or MSSQL application disks by purging log files constantly.

Once the snapshot is taken by the VSS writers, Vembu BDR will initiate the database integrity check before the backup starts and it will scan the post snapshot. Once this process is completed, it will give a ready signal to perform the backup based on the backup schedule. Taking advantage of application aware backups will ensure a regulated and uniform model to keep your business continuity plan effective.
