Cast Announced for New Musical About Tennessee Williams Making Debut at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater as part of Kogod Cradle Series
Washington, DC – Moon Lake Productions, LLC is proud to announce casting for A HOUSE OF GLASS, a musical adaptation of the biographical notes of the brilliant Tennessee (Thomas Lanier) Williams, the controversial author and playwright, directed by Matt Cowart.
The cast features phenomenal talent and local favorites, including Joshua Morgan, of the Helen Hayes Award-winning No Rules Theatre Company, in the lead role of Thomas Lanier (Tennessee) Williams, as well as Stephen Russell Murray (Frank), Barbara Pinolini (Grand/Eunice), Lawrence Redmond (Cornelius), Dorea Schmidt (Rose), Kyle Schliefer (Kip), and Janet Aldrich (Edwina/Audrey).
This brand new musical is a development production, opening on Thursday, February 5, 2015 and runs for ONE weekend only through Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater as part of the Kogod Cradle Series. The music, composed by Paul Leavitt, covers a wide range in the American canon, from ballads, ragtime, Dixieland, rhythm & blues and full-on Broadway musical numbers.
A HOUSE OF GLASS explores the transformation of shy, diffident Thomas Lanier Williams into Tennessee Williams – genius, addict, icon and iconoclast – and the demons that drove him, the angels that guided him. The time of the play spans the great arc of the writer’s life, beginning in 1918, when Williams is seven years old, to 1981, two years before Williams’ death, at the age of seventy-two, in 1983.
This musical play about the life of Tennessee Williams – the complex, driven, flamboyant and prolific genius who created many of the seminal works of the American stage and screen – explores his family archetypes, his agent and his longtime companion and how they gave rise to his indelible characters. A House of Glass examines his sexual compulsion, his long, hard slide into addiction and his redemption through the power of his work.
Part of Arena Stage’s American Voices New Play Institute, the Kogod Cradle Series supports the exploration and development of new and emerging work by visiting companies, artists and ensembles from throughout Greater Washington and around the country.
