A FURTHER LOOK INTO CROSS-LINKING FOR KERATOCONUS

Our eyes are vulnerable to many different issues and aside from the common issues of short-sightedness and long-sightedness which are addressed through LASIK in Dubai, other issues need specific attention. Keratoconus for example is an issue that New Vision Eye Centre in Dubai has been particularly stressing on as it has to do with the abnormal change of shape in the cornea. Ironically, cases of keratoconus can be found in patients who are fresh out of LASIK eye surgery in Dubai, and everywhere else in the world in general. Hence, it is one of the side-effects of the latter which one must be aware of before going in for surgery.

If you have been diagnosed with keratoconus recently, or know of someone who has been and you lack information on the subject, where treatment is concerned what is known as ‘cross-linking’ procedure is now in effect. It involves UV light and a photosensitiser which are used in conjunction with each other so as to strengthen the chemical bonds present in the cornea. The purpose of this treatment is to either slow or halt the process of ectasia as it is known, and is necessary to prevent the cornea from bulging out of shape.
