NEW VISION ON DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

In a bid to increase awareness on the importance of retinal issues, New Vision Eye Centre conducts workshop on Diabetic Retinopathy.

As the world is facing a crisis in the form of deteriorating vision, it has become more important than ever to be aware of the problems one may be vulnerable to as well as any treatment options they can look at implementing. The reason this has become a crisis, is due to the fact that changing lifestyles with an increase in junk food in our diets and habits such as long hours at work as well as an increasing amount of time spent on our phones means that our eyes are now facing excessive strain. Although you can turn to LASIK in Dubai as an option for short-sightedness or long-sightedness, it is important to know what other treatments are available for alternate issues you may be facing, for instance diabetic retinopathy. A prevailing issue, based on recent research that displayed a lack of knowledge amongst the public, it was the centre of focus at a workshop conducted by New Vision Eye Centre recently.

Diabetic Retinopathy is prevalent in those suffering from diabetes and is a condition that needs specific attention, as it occurs when excessive blood sugar is transported to those blood vessels that are responsible for carrying essential nutrients, oxygen and so on. Unfortunately, this disease has the ability to lead other serious issues such as glaucoma which is increased pressure within the eye, and should retinopathy be left untreated, it can even lead to situations of excessive blindness; however, early detection and treatment can generally lead to an alleviation in the problem. Whilst LASIK eye surgery in Dubai is now common to treat issues of myopia and hyperopia as well as astigmatism, laser surgery for retinal problems is less known which is why New Vision Eye Centre held a workshop on the subject.

‘We are so caught up in our daily lives, that we simply do not have the time to tend to ourselves until things get really bad; at this point, it is usually too late to do anything as the disease has set quite far in. Hence, we have decided to occasionally conduct workshops similar to this one that will address all the various issues your eyes are vulnerable to including recommended treatments so that the general public will have a better understanding on the subject. Nothing can be scarier than the unknown, and this way we hope that instead of a nation full of unaware people, we can nurture more education within them.
