Fantasy Unlimited has commissioned local artist Crystal Barbre to paint a mural at Seattle's historic Pike Place Market

June 28, 2016 (MMD Newswire) — Fantasy Unlimited has commissioned local artist Crystal Barbre to paint a mural on their wall across the street from Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market starting June 27th through the month of July.

The mural, entitled “The Tides of Change”, examines through fantastical storytelling the emotional affects of the city’s recent growth on Seattle’s population.

The piece is a nod to the Romantic period of art during the 19th century that wanted to represent emotionally the cultural and social changes of the Industrial Revolution.

In a time when strength of community is more important then ever, Fantasy Unlimited is reaching out to support local artists and become more involved in Seattle’s art community. The mural is unique in that it will be done completely in oil using techniques of the old masters. Crystal will be working with a number of other local artists to create a piece of artwork that uses mythical themes and fantasy to tell a contemporary story about our city.

Highly sexual in nature, the mural seeks to create an inspiring urban space to celebrate the power of art, the beauty of human sexuality, and freedom of expression. Expressing the human body through art without censor encourages an empowered, progressive, sex positive culture. Sometimes controversial the representation of sexuality creates a dialogue between people that is vital in helping to create a safer, happier, sexier environment for both men and women.

This public art by local artists will create dialogue with long time locals, those new to the city, visitors, and passers through for years to come.
