Doctors Adrift hit halfway mark in Indian Ocean rowing challenge

April 18, 2017 – The challenge is mega – take a two-man boat and row 3,600 miles across the Indian Ocean in 84 days from Western Australia to Mauritius.

Gold sponsor, CCube Solutions, a supplier of digital healthcare software to the NHS, announces today that junior doctors, Ted Welman and Jack Faulkner, have reached the halfway mark in what is an epic rowing adventure.

The pair are also trying to raise £100,000 for Medicins San Frontieres (MSF), the global medical charity which provides emergency care in areas affected by conflict, epidemics or natural disasters.

The challenge called Doctors Adrift will see Ted and Jack try and become the fastest pair to make the crossing. They left Geraldton in Western Australia in mid March 2017 and are expected to arrive in early June 2017.

Ocean rowing remains one of the toughest endurance tests known to man. Nearly 4,000 people have climbed Mount Everest, 536 have been to space yet just 20 rowing boars have ever crossed the Indian Ocean and only four were pairs. Ted and Jack are planning on being the fifth.

The two doctors will spend nearly three months at sea and, for the duration of the crossing, row in two hour shifts. This grueling schedule will see them burn 8,000 calories a day, and battle sleep deprivation, hurricane force winds and 50ft waves.

Vijay Magon, CCube Solutions’ managing director, says, “Our focus is working in the NHS helping Trusts and Health Boards with their digital transformation initiatives through the implementation of EDMS, workflow and eForms software. When we heard about the Doctors Adrift challenge we wanted to give something back and help fund Ted and Jack do something truly amazing while raising funds for MSF who do such important and challenging work.”

Halfway travelled and halfway to their funding raising goal
Ted and Jack have set themselves an ambitious target to raise £100,000 for Medicins San Frontieres. Not only are they half way through their rowing expedition, but they are also half way to their fund-raising goal.
