On Wednesday, May 24, the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce celebrated the grand opening of Catch Oyster Bar with a grand opening that was attended by local elected officials, Chamber members and Catch employees. The restaurant is located on 63 North Ocean Avenue in Patchogue.
Catch features a wide variety of oysters, clams, shellfish and seafood items. Co-Owner James Avino says the menu offerings are “boat-to-table,” meaning that what comes into the restaurant is caught in local waters. He adds that the wine and beers they serve on tap are also from Long Island.
Mr. Avino’s love for seafood began at an early age. As a child, he would go fishing and clamming off the South Shore of Long Island. When he was older, he worked his first job at a clam bar. He would later operate two restaurants in the Bellport area: the Bellport Chowder House (which has since closed) and Avino’s Italian Table.
James Avino has a special connection to the Village of Patchogue, as one of the original partners of the Brick House Brewery. During his time there, he helped build the restaurant and the brewery.
Michael Avino thanked everyone for attending the grand opening. “It is a labor of love,” he said of the restaurant. “I am humbled to be part of the revitalization of one of the greatest villages in America.”
