Steve Levy of Common Sense Strategies Available for Commentary on the Impact That the Unaccompanied Minors Act Has on Local Communities

Steve Levy, President of Common Sense Strategies, is available for political commentary to discuss the Unaccompanied Minors Act and how that is impacting local communities across the U.S., especially Long Island.

Mr. Levy says that the Unaccompanied Minors Act, which actually began under the Bush administration as a way to protect children in the sex trade, was later used by the Obama administration to freely admit illegal alien children into the U.S. and let them stay here, resulting in approximately 8,000 undocumented and unaccompanied children being sent to Long Island.

This has resulted in a resurgence of the street gang MS-13 in Suffolk County, where the gang has recruited many of these minors to join. Some of those minors were implicated in some of the murders of 17 people in Suffolk in the past year. President Donald J. Trump and U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited Suffolk County earlier this year to address the gang problem. On September 14, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, which would give the federal government the authority to deport or detain any immigrants who are gang members or are suspected of gang activity.

“The president, the attorney general and Congress have done an outstanding job cracking down on the infrastructure of these gangs and nabbing the suspects in these murders,” Mr. Levy said. “But just as we are starting to make strides to eradicate the gangs from our communities, we now see that another 1,700 unaccompanied minors have been directed to Long Island over the past year.”

Mr. Levy stressed that, by allowing unaccompanied minors crossing the border to stay in this country, it only encourages others to do so, thereby risking their lives in the process. That is why he believes they must be returned to their native countries. “President Trump’s fresh tone on border insecurity successfully reduced illegal crossings in general, but this Unaccompanied Minors program is still in force and creating huge problems for U.S. localities,” he said. “The president must focus on ending this program, as he did with aggressively pursuing the MS-13 program.”
