The antichrist - a "trusted" religious leader?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

From where cometh the anti-christ?

Many are trying to determine who the anti-christ is. Online are literally millions of articles and blogs written by people who are trying to warn others about who they believe him to be. Judging merely by the volume of opinions, it appears that Obama is currently a leading contender for the position. Prior to his coming on the scene, Putin was a leading choice.

Almost without exception, people expect the anti-christ to come from the political and/or military arena. This is largely true of Christians as well, several of whom believe that they have received their insight of who he is, from God.

Nevertheless, what if we’re barking up the wrong tree? What if his background is neither political nor military, but he instead comes from a religious (spiritual leader) background. Is he already “enthroned” in the hearts of people, having used a highly charismatic, magnetic personality, to become a popular, believed and perhaps beloved religious leader? Does he hold a “celebrity” type status? Might he give himself away to one who has a keen sense of spiritual discernment, because he always carefully avoids “offending sensitivities” – at the eternal cost of souls? Can his preaching perhaps be most accurately described as self-help, self-image improvement or “how to maximize the balance in your blessings account” seminars? (Remember, this was the kind of people pleasing, “change promising” personna that put Hitler into power.)

Even the title “anti-christ” would seem to indicate that he will come from the religious sector. Of note, he is not referred to as the anti-communism, anti-democratic, anti-socialism, anti-whatever governing power… He is anti-Christ (against God, who is Spirit)!

We know from scripture that the goal of the anti-christ is to create one worldwide religion. (Allegiance mandatory to save your earthly life.) It is under his/satan’s religion that all governments, militaries and their people will serve. The fact that his religion will be in authority above all earthly systems, is a further indicator that he will come from a religious leader background.

The push is on to unify all of the religions of the world into “one worldwide religion”. The Pope has notably taken the lead role in this effort, backed by men and women from around the globe, representing nearly all religions and denominations. Many of these apostates would be accurately described as “celebrity status” preachers. From such efforts have come false doctrines such as “Chrislam”.

The pope and many others are on public record for teaching that it does not matter what god a person worships, because as long as the person has a good heart, all religions/roads lead to Heaven.

Are we making the same critical error?

Many of the most significant problems of this world appear to be militarily or politically based, and are supposedly resolvable in like manner. The truth is that our problems in these areas are deeply rooted in battles within the spiritual realm, which then manifest into the natural realm.

The Jews of Jesus time were expecting a military/political leader (Messiah) who would free them from their oppressors, militarily set up an earthly Kingdom, lead and take care of them. The people in general had no personal access to scripture so relied upon its interpretation as presented by their religious leaders. We in America have no such excuse, as the Bible is available to anyone who wants to study it.

Ultimately, because they did not understand Gods plan and though they had been anticipating His arrival for centuries, they made the critical error of “missing it”; they failed to recognize the promised Messiah.

They were not looking for, nor did it occur to them that only a spiritual solution could resolve what had been birthed within the darkest recesses of the spiritual realm. Further, with very few exceptions, they believed that resolution should come with little to no personal involvement or risk on their part. Theirs was an early version of the “entitlement mentality” that has engulfed our nation.

What they had been taught to expect from a deliverer/Messiah was nothing like what God actually sent to them.  In reality, most of the people (as is true for us today) simply wanted to be set free of the tyranny of those who ruled over them, and allowed to live their lives in peace. Of course, a bit of miraculous healing or provision, on the side, would be greatly appreciated – thank you very much.

As was true of the Israelites, and especially in a time when war is breaking out all over the world and economies are in collapse, the Germans before us and we too are desperately seeking “change” or “salvation” through human, political/military means.

Jesus was truly the opposite of what the Jews anticipated would come. He did not launch a political campaign or a military coup to overthrow the government, nor did He support anyone’s intent to do so. Rather, His way was to apply a spiritual solution to a spiritual problem (casting out demons, healing the sick, raising the dead), and to teach the people what it really means to love one another and to love God.

Jesus taught what it takes to address problems which manifest in the natural but which are caused by spiritual lethargy, indifference and of course, willful rebellion and disobedience. He modeled and taught them what it takes to please The Father and how by following such an example, they too could enjoy a beautiful, personal (saving) relationship with Him.

The promises of God are nearly without exception, contingent upon our obedience to Him. Jesus said that He did not come to change what is expected of humankind. Indeed, He was clear that HIS WAY is not an easy one; He clearly taught that THE WAY is difficult and as a result, most would choose not to seek or travel it.

He taught that only those who would fully commit themselves to The Father, through Him, would inherit Heaven.

Jesus’ teaching was in stark contrast to what most of their religious leaders taught; as long as they were not horrible people and to some extent, they obeyed the law, being “of the seed of Abraham” guaranteed them Heaven. People today largely also buy what many “religious leaders” (as well as the majority of Christians) have carefully spoon fed them; as long as they call themselves Christian, say that they believe in Jesus and have recited “the prayer”, they are good to go…

The Jews of Jesus’ time missed recognizing their Messiah. Will we in like manner “miss it”, not recognizing the anti-christ for what he is?

Will misconceptions derail many of “the elect”?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of books written about end time’s prophecy. Conversations relating to the topic frequently include statements like “that can’t happen yet because such and such a scripture say that this other event will happen first”. We often stubbornly cling to a timeline or an understanding of events that is not Biblical or perhaps which is based on a book or a movie. In most instances, if we simply read scripture as it was written, rather than reading into it what we have come to believe via whatever venue the information came, we could avoid such errors.  One example is the pre-tribulation rapture theory, which is in direct opposition to what Jesus said; therefore believing it is in essence, calling God a liar.

Our understanding of how prophetic “markers” fit into the timeline in many instances may indeed be accurate. However, a misunderstanding of the timeline itself, where specific events fit within it, or even the original/actual meaning of specific words used in scripture, is causing many to miss the significance of the lateness of the hour as it relates to the fulfillment of prophecy. Those who erroneously believe that there is plenty of time left, will often procrastinate about truly getting right with and close to God – which can only happen according to His terms. Many will be completely unprepared for and therefore unable to stand in the face of what is coming. Remember, Jesus said that only those who overcome (remain steadfast in their faith), will be saved. (Mark 13:13)

Specific to this discussion, I will explain where the general understanding of a word may well be being misapplied.

He [the anti-christ] will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God. 2 Thessalonians 2:4 [clarification mine]

Many are expecting a literal temple to be built in Jerusalem and Christians therefore assume that they will recognize what is happening when they literally see the anti-christ set himself up “as god” in a rebuilt temple building. For this reason, it is a common interpretation of scripture that until a physical temple is completed, the remaining events of prophecy cannot occur.

However, throughout the New Testament, we are told that believers became “the temple of God” when Jesus died in payment for our sins. Scripture also refers to the followers of Jesus as the building blocks of the new temple, which is clearly not referring to a physical building.

The true follower of Jesus is the new temple and is the chosen earthly dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus died on the cross, the veil that separated The Holy Place and The Most Holy Place in the temple was rent in two. This was done when His presence vacated the old temple (building) in anticipation of moving into the new temple (the hearts of believers.)

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place… Matthew 24:15

Could this scripture mean that the abomination of desolation (anti-christ) will stand in “The Holy Place” of the new temple – in the assembly of the people of the modern church?

If the temple in which the anti-christ will install himself as “god” is in fact not a literal building but instead is the temple of the hearts of the people of the church, multitudes will completely miss the fulfillment of this scripture. This too would point to the anti-christ being a popular religious figure and gives some explanation to Jesus’ warning that the very elect will be deceived, as well as for His asking if when He returns, will He find faith on the earth? (Matthew 24:24, Luke 18:8)

Will we be unprepared because we are looking for what we consider “logical” or “traditionally understood” fulfillment of various scriptures? Will we fall because we have failed to take the time to study for ourselves, what the Holy Spirit has actually told us?

Will a false rapture cause deceived believer’s to follow a false Jesus?

The Bible warns that even believers (the elect) will be deceived into following the anti-christ. Yet, most Christians assume that they will easily recognize him and so they could never fall for his ploys. They are however, not understanding that he will be capable of, through signs and wonders, (miracles) producing “evidence” which will beyond any reasonable doubt support his claims. The magnitude of what will be performed will convince the most “rational mind” (natural), including that of tens of millions of joy filled believers, to think that he is in fact Jesus. Will he successfully the convince multitudes that just as promised, he (false Jesus) has returned to the earth, to begin his millennial reign?

Will people believe him because a “false rapture” event will have been perpetrated upon them through technological means such as that used in “Project Blue Beam” or perhaps it may be performed using signs and wonders (actual miracles)? Already, such technology is being used to make “floating cities” and other holographic images appear in the skies. Thousands have witnessed and even photographed such images in the past few years. Will people actually witness and even photograph a false rapture event, thereby being deceived into following him when he claims that he (imitating Jesus) is finally taking his “rightful” place as the ruler of the earth? Will even strong Christians, those that Jesus called the elect, be tricked into giving their devoted and wholehearted allegiance to the anti-christ, truly believing that they are obediently following the true Christ?

The copycat who seeks to devour…

Satan frequently mimics the things that he sees God do; this is a highly effective tool, which can allow his deceptions to go unrecognized for what they are when people see an apparent parallel between what is happening around them and those things that they have come to believe would only be “of God”. In this way, people can be made to believe that God instigates something when that is not the case. People often forget that satan can and does cause blessings in a person’s life, when it will serve his purposes.

An excellent example of someone who is not empowered by God, yet being able to mimic or copy His miracles was the Egyptian priests who were able to copy nearly every miracle that Moses performed before Pharaoh. Another example of satan mimicking God is seen in the parallel of The Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) vs. the end time’s unholy trinity (anti-christ, beast and false prophet). Yet another is; Jesus is our spiritual Savior and by what will seem a “logical” parallel, the unholy trinity will have the miraculous power to “save” those whom they wish to from the ravages of famine, war and pestilence. Remember, scripture tell us that the anti-christ will be seen as “the” ultimate spiritual leader/savior, while controlling the governments and people of the world from his church

Now is the time to learn to recognize His voice and His ways!

Do you truly recognize the voice of your savior? Are you so close to Him that you immediately recognize the voice of satan when he tries to deceive you? Now is the time to develop the kind of relationship with Jesus that will see you through – all the way home to Heaven! When it all “hits the fan”, it’s going to be fast and furious and the still small voice of God will be easily drowned out. Any who don’t intimately know the presence and voice of God, deep in their spirit, will fall.

Please don’t let that be you!

You make an excellent point in this essay, brother! You are so right that most (so-called) Christians have no first-hand knowledge of the Bible, preferring to be spoon-fed by various, fast-talking pastors with an agenda.
The non-Biblical ‘pre-tribulation rapture’ is vigorously defended by a sizeable body of believers, yet this doctrine was invented only recently, historically speaking… (to cite one example). Did Jesus ever say he was coming again… two times?
Most Christians (in the USA) are convinced they must support the modern state of Israel– no matter how atrocious and un-Godly their actions towards the Palestinians. These ‘Christian-Zionists’ have no idea that they are supporting the first ‘beast’ of Revelation 13!
If so many can be so easily duped on such major issues, what hope do they have of identifying Satan’s other deceptions, as you state?
      Keep sounding the alarm, bro!

        Hello Walter,
God says that the judgment of the nation’s belongs to Him alone. Do we think it fair that based on the actions of a portion of our people, the whole world thinks that America is evil?

Should the Texas, the southwest portions of California be “restored” to Mexico or perhaps the whole land be given to the Native Americans? If applied fairly, your logic would mean returning all land that has been taken over by another people group, to those who claim to be the original inhabitants/rightful owners. So then, just who should have the “ownership” of any piece of land in the end? Who is to decide who the original “rightful” inhabitants/owners were anyway?

God gave the real estate that we know as Israel to the descendants of Abraham and promised that even if they were removed from it for an extended time, eventually they would be restored to their land. By Gods will and plan and through miraculous intervention on the behalf of the Hebrew people, in ancient times, those who had inhabited the land were removed from it. Further, it was also by God’s promise and hand, and against seemingly insurmountable earthly odds, that the people of God have been restored as “a nation” on that same piece of real estate.

God has and will never permanently turn away from His chosen people. Believers in Christ are grafted in to His people; we do not and cannot replace the Jews in His heart. Indeed, God has worked feverishly throughout history to have a beautiful, full and complete relationship with the Hebrew people.

As scripture clearly states, though many will be lost in the events of the coming times, His work in and on the behalf of Israel will continue until Jesus takes His rightful place, ruling the world from Jerusalem! Obviously, there is something very special about that sliver of real estate, which God Himself declared to belong to the Jewish people! Scripture tells us that the 144,000 and the “two witnesses” are not going to be working in New York or LA or somewhere else, they will be deployed in Jerusalem, working tirelessly to bring as many of the Jewish people as possible to Him!

That my Brother is Gods final word on the subject!

Never forget that God said that all who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse her, will be cursed. Please take His warnings to heart and do not end up standing before Jesus, having to explain your hatred for His chosen, it won’t go well for you… Further, we have been warned that by the measure that we forgive, we will be forgiven.

Now is the time for all who hold any animosity towards Israel (the Jewish people) to repent and change their heart so that their attitude and desires for the people of Israel align with the heart of God! Pray for their redemption as if your life depends upon it, for your reward or loss for eternity will indeed be impacted by how you treat His chosen ones now!

There are evil people in every society, but we are not the judge of mankind – God will handle things on an individual by individual basis, according to what each has done.

Best to you in your sojourn on the earth. Perhaps we have the opportunity to get acquainted in Heaven!

        • CAPTAIN CHAOS!!

          “Hello Walter…”

          Hi there, Shammah.

Wooops. You weren’t talking to me. But here I am.

“Do we think it fair that based on the actions of a portion of our people, the whole world thinks that America is evil?”

Yup. The Most High says that, howsoever it goes with the NATION, so it goes with the PEOPLE.

“Should the Texas, the southwest portions of California be “restored” to Mexico or perhaps the whole land be given to the Native Americans?”

Your question bespeaks a constricted view of that which IS. ALL the Earth belongs to the Most High, and therefore those of us which inhabit it had better seek to adhere to His ways, else we be spit out BY the land. All the land serves its Creator.

“So then, just who should have the “ownership” of any piece of land in the end?”

Good question. Seems like ‘Walter’ had better read up and see what HE has to say about these things.

“Who is to decide who the original “rightful” inhabitants/owners were anyway?”

He who built The House has more honor than The House that He built.

“Further, it was also by God’s promise and hand…”

Yes. But stop right there and go no further. Who entered into that land? Was it truly God’s people? Shammah. This is most important. Can you prove to yourself that it was indeed HIS people – the people He KICKED OUT of the land – that He indeed brought back into the land? Read the Word. The Word is NOT silent on this very issue. The Word has MUCH to say. Don’t listen to men. Listen to the Word.

“…and against seemingly insurmountable earthly odds, that the people of God have been restored as “a nation” on that same piece of real estate.”

Yes. That is what Prophecy says would happen. But don’t the same prophecies DECLARE that no one would EVER come against His people once HE brought them BACK into the land? Read, Shammah. Listen to the Word.

“God has and will never permanently turn away from His chosen people.”

There is no such thing as ‘chosen people.’ There is only those of us who have been SWORN to uphold His Word; and those of us who have not.

“Believers in Christ are grafted in to His people…”

No. Believers in Christ ARE the Children of Abraham. We are not grafted in – we are the native branches.

“…we do not and cannot replace the Jews in His heart.”

Who is a Jew? Ask the Apostle Paul. Who?

“Indeed, God has worked feverishly throughout history to have a beautiful, full and complete relationship with the Hebrew people.”

Eh? And why? Because HEBREWS were the least. And HEBREWS made the HEAD. But HEBREWS are to become the TAIL. Why? Read prophecy.

“As scripture clearly states, though many will be lost in the events of the coming times, His work in and on the behalf of Israel will continue until Jesus takes His rightful place, ruling the world from Jerusalem!”

Seek to the nearest mirror. Look at yourself. Behold – an ISRAELITE!!!

“Obviously, there is something very special about that sliver of real estate, which God Himself declared to belong to the Jewish people!”

Did He? Read SCRIPTURE. He swore it to the people of HIS BLESSING – not to the people of His CURSE.

“Scripture tells us that the 144,000…”

          144,000 WHAT, Shammah?

“…and the “two witnesses” are not going to be working in New York or LA or somewhere else, they will be deployed in Jerusalem, working tirelessly to bring as many of the Jewish people as possible to Him!”

I DARE you to quote the verse or verses which state what you just witnessed the Word teaches. I dare you.

“That my Brother is Gods final word on the subject!”

FALSE. That’s something you’ve been taught by man. If not, then post the verses which specifically state what you just said. You will not, for you cannot. The Word of God says no such thing.

“Never forget that God said that all who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse her, will be cursed.”

Truth. But only GOD’S definition of Israel matters. Not Esau’s definition of her. Read the Word of God. Heed not the lessons of The Red.

“Now is the time for all who hold any animosity towards Israel (the Jewish people)…”

Seek to the Word. You are wide of the mark. You cannot believe GOD’S Word and believe Esau’s word at the same time. Listen to the ONE or the other. Believe the ONE or believe some other.

“There are evil people in every society, but we are not the judge of mankind…”

          Nothing but true.

“God will handle things on an individual by individual basis, according to what each has done.”

And again, you preach the Word. But you mingle.

“Best to you in your sojourn on the earth. Perhaps we have the opportunity to get acquainted in Heaven!”

Before Heaven COMES… Paradise abides. But Paradise is NOT Heaven. Paradise is not IN Heaven. Read the Word. The Kingdom of Heaven is coming…

Hi “Walter II”, yes indeed, here you are…

I was speaking to we humans and our judgment of others, thus I used the words “the whole world”. God is not of this world.

Indeed, you’re right in what you say about the judgment of The Most High/Yahweh.

Again, I was speaking in terms of what we as humans consider “ownership”when I made this comparison.

God created and owns all, thus it was His supreme right and pleasure to give the land of Israel to the Hebrew people.

Why would you think that it was not Gods people who were led into the land that became known as Israel? Do you think that it was perhaps someone other than God who was in the cloud during the day and the pillar of fire at night, which led them during their years in the wilderness?

When I referenced the people that he removed from the land, I was referring to those who dwelt there when they arrived, those that ten of the spies said they could not overcome. (including the giants)

Indeed God did bring the Israelite’s back to the land after they had been banished into captivity; just one reference is recorded in the account of Nehemiah.

Much of scripture can be read/understood according to what we’ve come to believe it means, via whatever venue our learning came…

Indeed, throughout scripture He stated that when people have chosen to truly follow Him that they will be His people and He will be their God. That has always been the desire of His heart.

Once all is fulfilled (including the final battle), His people, regardless of their nationality or bloodline, under the rule of Jesus, will live in peace even with the forces of nature. See Isaiah 10:20 – 11:16

Indeed “His people” are those who live in the Fear of the Lord and who do His will. He will continue His pursuit of the Hebrew people, in the hope of their coming to Him. That too is found throughout scripture.

Do you believe that it is “living in His will” to harbor hatred for any people group? Jesus said:
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” Matthew 7:1-3

I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Romans 11:1-2

And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee. Romans 11:17-18

True, those who honor the Lord will be the head and conversely, those who do not will be the tail. This is true of all people groups, Hebrew or not.

And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: Deuteronomy 28:13.

What you state as an apparent insult, I take to be a blessing. My blood is indeed one fourth Jewish but my heart belongs 10000000000000000000 percent to Jesus! Salvation comes only through my relationship with, my honoring and obedience to Him!

Perhaps you somehow overlook the fact that Jesus was indeed fully human and fully God, and born an Israelite?!

“Obviously, there is something very special about that sliver of real estate, which God Himself declared to belong to the Jewish people!”

Did He? Read SCRIPTURE. He swore it to the people of HIS BLESSING – not to the people of His CURSE.

There will be a remnant of the Jewish people that will choose to follow Jesus and be fully His. People of any background who refuse/rebel against Him will be under eternal curse.

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Genesis 12:3 (This warning is for the instruction of others, as well as His promise to Abram.) Further, I find no scripture that states that God rescinded this promise…

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. Matthew 7:2

            *****
I don’t believe I used the word “paradise”… Yet, according to Strong’s, the Greek word, which was translated Paradise and as used in Luke 23:43, 2 Co 12:4 and Rev 2:7 has the following meaning:
            1. among the Persians a grand enclosure or preserve, hunting ground, park, shady and well watered, in which wild animals, were kept for the hunt; it was enclosed by walls and furnished with towers for the hunters
            1. a garden, pleasure ground grove, park
            2. the part of Hades which was thought by the later Jews to be the abode of the souls of pious until the resurrection: but some understand this to be a heavenly paradise
            3. the upper regions of the heavens. According to the early church Fathers, the paradise in which our first parents dwelt before the fall still exists, neither on the earth or in the heavens, but above and beyond the world
            4. heaven

In closing, I have found in speaking with people that it is often important to clarify that what I refer to as “scripture” comes from the Bible and that my God (the true God) is Yahweh/Jesus. Often times when speaking about “God” or scripture, people have different meaning and thus a completely different understanding/base for their beliefs…

Perhaps this is what is happening here?

I hope that this reply gives clarification as needed to any who read it.

              Romans 15:12

“The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; in him the Gentiles will hope.”

              Isaiah 11:10

Then in that day The nations will resort to the root of Jesse, Who will stand as a signal for the peoples; And His resting place will be glorious.
