“Rumsfeld names retired army lawyer ex-Gen John Altenberg to supervise military trials against 660 non-American al Qaeda suspects detained for two years at Guantanamo Bay. Altenberg will also appoint military tribunal members. Rumsfeld named 2 former US cabinet members and 2 judges as court of appeal.”

Most of these prisoners were captured in Afghanistan in the late months of 2001, and have been held in our prison at Guantanamo Bay ever since. These prisoners were declared to be “enemy combatants” and thus not eligible for civil rights we have normally granted aliens under our Constitution. These men have not been granted access to lawyers and it is a safe bet that they have not be formally charged.

However, these trials will be secret, with military judges, and according to the draconian rules we have laid down. Any appeal will also be secret. Thus, we have set the stage for the kind of trials that Communist secret courts and judges and appeal courts have carried out under the old Soviet system of “justice”.

Why is the Bush Administration just now moving to begin these trials? I discount the possibility that worldwide opinion has delayed the start of these secret proceedings simply because our government has amply demonstrated its ability to ignore public opinion, and get away with it! Rather, I think these secret trials have been delayed until now for a couple other reasons:

1). Every dictator used foreign war and/or foreign attack to disguise his internal suppression. If the sudden increase in the shrill nature of public rhetoric is any indication, we may be getting ready for the next planned terrorist attack against urban centers, in America, England, Europe, Australia, and Asia. If New York City is taken out by a nuclear device, what Americans will notice, or care, how we are treating “enemy combatants” in Guantanamo Bay? For that matter, most Americans will be convinced by our propaganda that the nasty Muslims sneaked that atomic bomb inside New York City; therefore, they will be screaming for militant Muslim blood, and what better place to begin our retaliation than those 666 Muslim prisoners in Guantanamo Bay?

2). Since President Bush stealthily signed Patriot Act II into law while the rest of the world was exulting over the capture of Saddam Hussein the vast majority of legal changes necessary before Martial Law could be enacted have now been made. In other words, every act the Illuminati plans to take during this deliberately created terrorist crisis can now be legally enacted!
