Why the Book of Enoch is not in the Canon
The book of Enoch was rejected from the canon by the Septuagint translators and the church for many good reasons. These are the reasons the Septuagint writers used to reject the book, also reasons used when the Patriarchate of Constantinople left it out, when they compiled the N.T. and resorted the O.T. books to the order that we have today. Those people were a lot closer to the date of writing than we are today. This book was compiled out of five unrelated scrolls in the inter-testamental period between the writing of Malachi and Matthew. It was written in Coptic Egyptian in Egypt. It was not written by any Old Testament prophet or New Testament apostle. Nobody really knows who the true authors of the five different scrolls were. It was certainly not Enoch mentioned in Genesis.

4. Nobody knows for sure who this “Enoch” was…the actual Enoch of the generation before the flood did not write it, saying he did is fraudulent
5. Many different versions in use…the Masorites did not copy, conserve, and maintain the integrity of this work…the different versions have major variations, not just spelling issues
6. The book is a compilation of five different scrolls stitched together into one long scroll. The four scrolls or chapters following chapter one, which deals with hybrid cannibals, use different styles. Their content doesn’t have much to do with the first chapter, or much to do with each other for that matter. There is no textual evidence to indicate a single author writing the complete work at a given time.
7. The ultimate decision maker for what went into the canon was the consensus of use in the different churches during the time of imperial persecution. This was up to the Christians and their local bishops. The final list of canonical books was not published by the Romans until Trent in 1610. The Protestants made up their own list in the 16th century. Both groups rejected the Book of Enoch for the above reasons. The consensus to this day is that the book is not inspired scripture. Only two obscure churches in Ethiopia use them.
