Then God showed up.

Unless you have read the Apocrypha then you have no way of knowing how God intervened in the lives of Tobit and Sara. This is an account that took place in the lives of two complete strangers, after the fall of Samaria, the Northern Kingdom of Israel by Sennacherib King of Syria in 732 B.C.. Most of Israel were chased over the Caucasus Mountains into Europe where they settled, even unto this day. Not all were allowed to leave a small remnant remained in Nineveh, including a man named Tobit, his wife Anna and their only son Tobias. Tobit and his family lived in a very hostile environment where it was commonplace for people to be killed and left in the streets. Tobit was a righteous man who cared for the sick, fed the hungry and clothed the naked but his righteous acts extended beyond helping the needy. He could not bear to see the dead just lying in the streets so he took them outside the city and gave them a proper burial. This angered the Devil and so in doing it angered the Devils children to the point that they wanted him dead. When they came after him he ran and hid until things calmed down. When you’re doing God’s work you will be met with resistance, sometimes you have to find another job, a new neighborhood to live in or leave a group you belong too. Joseph and Mary had to go to Egypt and wait until Herod the King died before returning to home. The next day when things calmed down he saw a dead body lying in the street and so he buried it and that brought back the anger of those wanting him dead and Tobit had to run for his life again and slept hat night outside next to the city wall. Unknown to Tobit a flock of doves roosted right above him and defecated on his face and some got into his eyes blinding him. Somehow me managed to make it back home and cried out to God saying just take me now, for living in heaven is far better than living here.

Unbeknownst to Tobit across town a young virgin had her own set of troubles. Now bear with me as i convey her story to you and you will see that this was the work of God. She had married 7 times and all her husbands had died before they had consummated their wedding vows. Now if you have any doubts of the truthfulness of this let me remind you of an incident that took place between Christ and some fake preachers. They ask, a woman had 7 husbands and all died when she gets to heaven which one will she be married too. I believe Sara was chosen for this assignment by God because God does not have wimps in His Army. Over 500 year after her challenging trial of faith her story was forever recorded in God’s Word before non-other than Jesus Christ The Messiah. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Now Sara was being accused of killing all 7 of her husbands and feared for her life. Just as Tobia was crying out to God to take him so was Sara crying out to be taken. In her mind it would be better to be taken by God than an angry mob ripping her body apart. 

God heard both prayers and came to their rescue by healing Tobit and dispersed the mob without harming Sara. But it does not end there the next day Tobit left home for a couple days. When he returned to his home he saw Sara walking down the stairs from the upper bedroom which she now shared with her new husband Tobias. Tobit did not know who she was or why she was there. Neither did he know that he was looking at his daughter-in-law and the future mother of his grandchildren. Scripture does not explain how Sara and Tobias got together but that really dos not matter, what matters is that God had worked all this out ling before it happened. Is God Great or what? 

So what is to be learned from their hardships, it is found in one scripture. Psalms 34:19 “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

When you’re serving God there will be those who dislike you for no reason other than they just don’t like you and that’s all the reason they need to cause you trouble. They are doing the works of their father the Devil. They’re intent on doing as much damage to your reputation and character as possible. But God will deliver you out of all their lies of deception and hatred if you stay true to Him.

Note: If you’re the apple of everyone’s eye and the best thing since sliced bread then you should examine your testimony. Jesus said in Matthew 10:22 “And ye shall be hated of all men”.
