Why do left and right signal different ends of the political spectrum on something as basic as border security?

The fundamental differences between left-wing socialism and right-wing conservatism ideologies center around their beliefs. The political right generally believe that Christian doctrine, such as the 10 Commandments, should play a role in government. According to them, the government should abide by the Bible when it comes to social issues like abortion and gay marriage.

A significant portion on the left identify themselves as atheist or agnostic. People on the left strongly believe in a secular government and the separation of church and state.

This core difference between Christian and atheist directly effects what they are for and against:

Do not rejoice over me, my enemy!
Though I have fallen, I will stand up;
though I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be my light.
Because I have sinned against Him,
I must endure the Lord’s rage
until He argues my case
and establishes justice for me.
He will bring me into the light;
I will see His salvation.[a]
Then my enemy will see,
and she will be covered with shame,
the one who said to me,
“Where is the Lord your God?”
My eyes will look at her in triumph;
at that time she will be trampled
like mud in the streets.

A day will come for rebuilding your walls;
on that day your boundary will be extended. (Micah 7:8-11)

HOW THEN SHOULD WE PRAY?

God acknowledges the importance of border agents, and we must pray for them. “On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night, they should never be silent” (Isaiah 62:6).

God was the first to establish borders for safe dwelling places, and we should pray for the protection of America’s borders: And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place (Acts 17:26).

CONSIDER THESE ITEMS FOR PRAYER:

Pray for God’s protection over the United States from every enemy, including those “within the gates.”

Pray cities and states struggling with the crisis of too many people at the same time who are in need of government services.

Pray for Congress and the President to act to close the borders and establish true immigration reform.

Pray for a loving and Christ-centered attitude toward the migrants that believers encounter, praying for them and sharing the Gospel as they can.

Triumphant Father, You are the light and salvation for the United States, so we shall not be afraid. You are our fortress, protecting our borders from danger, so we shall not tremble. It is You, Almighty King, who causes the enemies of this nation to stumble and fall. God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, we decree that Your very Name keeps us safe from all harm. As we trust in You, Your Word declares that this nation will not be disgraced, nor will You allow our enemies to rejoice in our defeat. Father, we confess that we are a nation that acknowledges Jesus Christ as Your Son. We admit that we are a pluralistic society that confesses many gods, but there is a remnant that trusts only in You. Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, their armies and weapons, but we, the United States, will always boast in the Name of the Lord our God. We decree that the United States will rise up and stand firm in Jesus’ Name. We confess that our enemies will stay far away from our borders. We will live in peace and terror will not come near us. We declare Your Word in faith.
