The "Sinner's Prayer" and the "Two Thieves" — What Every Christian Needs to Know

The “Sinner’s Prayer” and the “Two Thieves” — What Every Christian Needs to Know

“Sinner’s Prayers” and their offshoots are now the mainstay of modern Christian “salvation” doctrine.

The story of the “Two Thieves” is oftentimes used as a proof of EZ, instant salvation.

But what if something else is going on here?

Stewart Best has been teaching and preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ for over 40 years. The following video is an audio excerpt from his 5-15-2024 Night Shadows Radio Show.

2Pet 2:1-2:

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2Pet 2:1)

And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. (2Pet 2:2)

StewBest has an expectation of what is and what isn’t salvation. On the one hand he suggests there is no sinners prayer as a point of new beginnings; but then expects us to keep God’s commands. However the question always comes up which commands is he talking about?
StewBest delves into the gospels and says that these are the commands, but fails to point that these are transitional books and are speaking to the lost sheep of Israel.
Therefore Jesus speaks as to those still obligated to perform in the flesh (to please God) and at the same time inspires the Lost sheep to embrace Him as the only one that will please the Father.
By faith we believe forgiveness is offered to as we confess our sins and the free gift of
    salvation is given.
And just as profound the Holy Spirit becomes THE ONE that leads us into all truth; even a means of righteous performance.

John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

You are EXACTLY the poor, lost Christian to whom this video is directed.

These are not “StewBest’s words” he is bringing up. These are the words of Jesus Christ that he is quoting.

As to the commands of Jesus only being for Israel, where does Jesus say that these commands are only to Israel, and not for all Christians?

      Nowhere is the answer.

Jesus commanded us to seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness. It is to be our #1 priority, above ALL else.

Jesus commanded us to take up our own cross (an instrument of DEATH) and follow him.

Jesus commanded us to enter in at the strait (constricted) gate.

Jesus commanded us to walk the narrow (afflicting) way, and not stop until we find (eternal) life; which is coming into authentic union with Christ at the end. And Jesus said FEW would find it (Christians followed their own EZ, false doctrines, ahem).

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commanded to teach ALL NATIONS (not just Israel) and to observe ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU (including all the commandments listed previously):

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (Matt 28:19)

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matt 28:20)

And then, to top it all off, you proclaim your fake, EZ, wide, broad doctrine of devils.

      I hope you reconsider your…

It will explain in detail the message in the above video. Prove it wrong if you can (no one has; it’s the truth).

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (1Thess 5:21)

What redefines the Christian life is one of walking by the Holy Spirit and forsaking a fleshly perspective as the way to God. The OT and the Gospel’s spoke from a position that honored and still obligated the family of Adam to prove themselves as obedient to the commandments. Yet as we enter the New Covenant its based solely on Jesus being the fulfillment of the law and the way back to the Father The goal is not one of coming before God in your own salvation, but rather being apart of Jesus’ own provision. This is why we call Him Savior.
As we read the Word we have to take that leap which carries us into the life of Christ and His accomplishments rather than our own. With respect I say that you can’t prove yourself as acceptable to God by keeping any commandments.
          Romans 8:6-8
The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

Then you will find out the hard way, that Jesus was not kidding when He commanded us all to take up our own personal cross and enter in at the strait gate, and walk the narrow way, not stopping until we find, and come into union, with Christ. (John 14:21)

Sad, but the scriptures must be fulfilled of all these millions of Christians who thought their self-righteousness and fancy flowery words of the false preachers and teachers would save them, rather than the simple obedience to the salvation commands of Jesus Christ.

And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Matt 7:23)

Repent, and believe the true gospel.

          • Gordon

Again I point out that the gospels are speaking to men that have yet to arrive in the life of Jesus. So when Jesus says to “take up your Cross” that sacrifice was expected of those in Adam. Yet the New Covenant is one of sharing in the Cross of Christ. We were baptized into His death so that we could come to know His life. Look at all the verses that bring this point to life.
Romans 6:2 We died to sin.

Romans 6:3 You were baptized into his death?

Romans 6:6 The old self was crucified to do away with sin.

Romans 6:7 Anyone who has died has been freed from sin.

Romans 6:8 Died with Christ… alive with him.

Romans 6:11 Count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 7:4 You also died to the law through the body of Christ.

Romans 7:6 By dying to what once bound us, we’re released from the law.

1Corintians 5:14 Christ died for all; therefore, all died.

Galatians 2:19 I died to the law so that I might live for God.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live…

Colossians 2:20 You died with Christ to the basic principles of this world.

Colossians 3:3 You died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God..

2Timothy 2:11 If we died with him, we will also live with him.

Colossians 1:22 You were reconciled by Christ’s physical body through death.

Colossians 2:12 You were buried with him in baptism and raised with him through faith in the power of God
