A group is asking for Occupy movement segments in various cities to sign on today to a national day of action to support Occupy Oakland on November 2 from 4-9 PM. More info.

Yesterday’s GA: Long Term Occupation

Strategies for long term occupation discussed. I do not know of any consensus items as notes have not been posted in the forums. Please do this, and/or send info in to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com.

CALL FOR HELP: Please send info in to occupyclevelandstories (_at symbol_) gmail.com. Have had a difficult time finding event times, notes and consensus items from GAs in the forums to post in this Digest. If you are a notekeeper, please post notes (particularly consensus items) in the GA forum ( http://unju.st/forum/viewforum.php?f=3) as this will also help.

One can find semi-recent GA notes here but please post more recent notes.

Today’s (Wednesday’s) Events

In addition to our regularly scheduled weekday events, here are some special events that are happening today! Lots to do! Unless otherwise noted, events are in NW Quadrant (Tom Johnson/Free Speech Quadrant) of Public Square or nearby in the white tent area. More upcoming events after today are here…

Wednesday 11/2
Art as Political Speech

From subversive RAT (Regional Art “Terrorist”) attacks to Most Outrageous Piece in the CSU Peoples Art Show, former expat, outsider artist, ArtCrimes publisher and poet Steven B. Smith has a lot to present regarding collage and art as political speech.

Wednesday 11/2 – 3 PM Daily March
March starts off in NW Quadrant of Public Square.

Wednesday 11/2 – 6 PM General Assembly (GA)

Theater Subgroup of Arts and Culture WAG * Wednesday, Nov. 2 @ 7:30 PM
Collaborative Theater Meeting
This particular meeting pertains to theater event(s) and other creative actions. We are planning a major creative event in November and we invite poets, artists, singers, musicians, dancers, theater people and anyone interested in participating to come to this planning event Wednesday, which will also be a group collaborative event that will be fun. More details below. occupyclevelandtheater (_at symbol) gmail.com

Wednesday, Nov. 2 10 PM – 6 AM and recurring every Wednesday
Poetry All Night

Come help us fortify the overnight area all night with poetry! Bring your poems and writings and/or the poems of other people’s work that you’d like to share. Music also welcome–help accompany the poets! Dress very warmly!

Wednesday 11/1 10 PM – 6 AM Evening Shifts
Please sign up at the white tent for an evening shift so that we can maintain effective occupancy overnight and relieve people who are overburdened. Dress extremely warmly with lots of layers and bring appropriate gear to keep yourself warm. As of now we are unclear on the tent situation but this is a possibility soon.

Today: Collaborative Theater 7:30 PM

The Theater subgroup of the Arts & Culture WAG is asking for your help! This is a major opportunity for outreach to become involved. We’re having a fun meeting this coming Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7:30 PM in the Northwest Quadrant of Public Square. We invite theater people, artists, poets, singers, musicians, and anyone who is interested in a collaborative arts production with room for both improvisational, autonomous and planned expression. The theme is the death and rebirth of expression. We are working together organically on several parts of the performance and incorporating them into a structure that we’ve started to work on. This performance will happen either Nov. 25 or 29, date TBD, and the planning events throughout the month are also artistic and fun.

From Cleveland Leader: Occupy Cleveland Members Talk About Their Movement

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl4aPdMOMQo

“We want to be heard. This is a national problem, but this is also a local problem.”

International Day of Action – Thursday, November 3

Thursday is an internaltional day of action in support of a financial transactions tax.

“The tax structure needs to be restructured so wealth is taxed more than work, purchases of stocks, bonds and derivatives are taxed (we pay taxes on purchase food, clothing and shelter) and a truly progressive income tax is put in place. It is this unfairness at a time of economic fear that is driving the Occupy Movement.” – Kevin Zeese

Call for Poetry

Call for Poetry/Creative Writing/Art Submissions – we’re looking for poetry seeds from the larger poetry community, again, a great outreach action. We’re putting together an Occupy Cleveland poetry zine and I’d like to feature some creative items in the Daily Digest as well. Please send submissions to occupyclevelandpoetry (_at symbol_) gmail.com. Wednesday nights we reach out to the larger poetry community to participate in a weekly all night poetry event from 10 PM to 6 AM. Bring your favorite poetry/prose to share! Musicians welcome.

Upcoming Events

Mon., November 7
Working America Phonebanking
Working America is phonebanking all day to stop Issue 2. Voting takes place November 8! Call 216-781-3032 for information on how you can participate. Solidarity! Background: voting no on Issue 2 will overturn SB-5, which was the legislation that had been passed that harmed collective bargaining rights for police officers, firefighters, teachers and others. Because of unions, we enjoy more limitations on what employers can request of us. The concept of having time off during the weekend was largely enforced due to activism on the part of unions, so unions have benefited all of us. Please visit the Ohio Secretary of State’s web page about the election for information on issues and candidates to learn more about what is being voted on in this election.

Thurs., November 10 - CONSENSUS ACTIVITY
Rally at 3250 Euclid Avenue in solidarity with AFL-CIO, Occupy Cleveland and other groups.

See round robin format suggestion below.

Friday 11/4 and Fridays
First Aid Training, Soup and Sandwiches
Nurse Allie returns on Fridays with soup to share, continuing her teach-in series on First Aid!

Monday 11/7
Greg Coleridge on Democratizing Money

The US monetary system is controlled not by We the People (as stipulated in the US Constitution) but by the Federal Reserve and commercial banks – which issue and circulate most of the money in our nation as debt. This provides banking corporations not only incredible never-intended economic powers in controlling our nation’s money supply but political power via lobbying and campaign contributions/investments. Information will also be shared about Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s recent legislation, the National Emergency Employment Defense (NEED) Act – HR 2990 – that would both democratize US monetary policy and create over 7 million jobs repairing our nation’s infrastructure without added a dime to our nation’s debt.

Tuesday 11/8
Slow Learners: Adults with Learning Disabilities
Octogenerian Lenore Ireland presents information on what it is like to work with adult children who have these disabilities. Ireland adopted three slow learners. She regularly works with Saturday Night Live, a social group for adults who have experienced slow learning and/or are interested in socializing with slow learners. This applies to concepts of community responsibility, self-actualization and autonomy.

Interested in scheduling your teach-in? Please contact occupyclevelanded (_at symbol_) gmail.com.

Suggestion for teach-ins: if no moderator present, please get comfortable, sit down, form a circle and each speak for a couple minutes around the circle, offering information that will help society, with as many rounds around the circle as wanted. Please be considerate and let each speak for a couple minutes.

Current haves and needs

Civic support, solidarity, empathy, kindness, wholeness, tolerance, participation, dialogue, listening, patience, kindness, global tribal ethic, fostering leadership in young adults, restoring reverence to older adults, community, focus, persistence, patience, lots of love, pride, humility, following up, moving forward, reaching out.

Practically speaking: overnight occupiers to work in shifts in our overnight area–sign up at the tent, particularly the 2 AM – 6 AM shift, water (particularly hot water), very large thermos for hot water, hand and body warmers, blankets, more computer equipment and luxurious hot food made as ethically as you can conveniently or inconveniently muster–especially in the morning when people are cold–and donations.
