Occupation is just a beginning…

I was in New York City last weekend.
When we planned this trip several months ago, it was supposed to be just a fun weekend with friends. In the meantime things changed in Toronto, in New York, and everywhere!

I couldn’t spend my time visiting without passing by Wall Street and the Occupation Zone. It was just amazing! So many people together in this “Liberty Plaza”, so many tourists taking pictures, like it was an attraction… and so many policemen, as if it was a dangerous place to be.

Between my visit and today the eviction happened.
Strength and discipline were apparently used without any consideration for the hundreds of campers.
It’s amazing to think that all these peaceful people protesting for justice and equality were simply treated as terrorists.
But finally, is this not the fate of anybody seeking to oppose and overthrow this system that is fundamentally unfair? Is this not the evidence of a decadent system that can no longer keep its population dreaming and doesn’t know how to rein them in?

New York is such the symbol of our Capitalist world, built on the selection and manipulation of the weak.

I was in New York City last weekend and now I know that the Occupation is just the beginning.
