“Accused of anarchy and terrorism”

The times when one might feel it is worth the effort to comment upon a statement by the main governmental party here in the greek territory would, of course, be seldom. After all, New Democracy -and the circle of the extreme far-right “advisers” to the current PM, as well as the PM himself- perfectly condense the most reactive of discourse and the most repressive of action. In a sense, one has to give it to the “truth team” of the party (a fantastically Orwellian name for its propaganda bureau) in the sense that its full-scale attack against all it perceived and real “enemies” is honest as much as it is brutal, ideological as much as it is direct.

What is left for one to comment upon, then? They are our enemies and they treat us as enemies, too. Yet still, there is something revealing when they decide to get rid of even the last pretensions of a ‘democratic’ regime, of a somewhat ‘tolerant’ apparatus: in response to a parliamentary discussion on the case of the anarchist comrade Kostas Sakkas, New Democracy issued a statement accusing SYRIZA (…) that they support “each and every one accused of anarchy and terrorism”. And so, it is official – “anarchy” has become a charge, a criminal offense – and of course, in face of the apparatus that stages the charge, this is nothing less than a badge of honor: we are proud of comrade Kostas Sakkas and we should all be charged with anarchy. Guilty as charged!
