Court Cancels Taksim Gezi Park Demolition, Protesters Win!!

A Turkish court has cancelled an Istanbul building project backed by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan which provided the trigger for nationwide anti-government demonstrations last month, a copy of the court decision showed.

Authorities may well appeal against cancellation of plans for replica Ottoman-era barracks on Istanbul’s Taksim Square. But the ruling marked a victory for a coalition of political forces and a blow for Mr. Erdogan, who stood fast against protests and riots he said were stoked by terrorists and looters. The Deputy PM said it was a plot by Jews and Foreigners.

YOU DID IT!! You saved a park. You saved trees and therefore life, not just their livesbut your lives. You cared enough about this park to save it. Maybe you have had good times there, maybe you walk you dog there or read a book or whatever but whatever it was, you cared enough to fight for it and that is the best most hopeful and inspiring thing a human being can do. The mas protests and barricades and resistance was a physical manifestation of love and the power of love and guess what… love triumphed over greed. Be happy, be hopeful, maybe humanity isn’t doomed afterall. There are glimmers of hope!
