What is Biometric Smart Dust?

Smart dust refers to a system of tiny, wireless microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) or “motes,” typically sub-millimeter in size, capable of detecting, computing, and communicating data about their environment. Originally conceived for military surveillance, this technology has evolved to include biometric sensing capabilities, allowing these microscopic devices to monitor physiological signals such as heart rate, body temperature, breath rate, and even neural activity.  When deployed in swarms, these sensors can create an invisible network capable of ubiquitous surveillance, recording conversations, movements, and biometric data often without the subject’s knowledge or consent.

Erosion of Bodily Autonomy
