In Daniël 9 : 25 wordt vermeld wanneer de zeventig weken zouden beginnen. Vanaf het moment, dat het woord uitging om “te doen terugkeren en Jeruzalem te bouwen”, zouden 7 en 62 weken verlopen. Ze worden samen genoemd. Het gaat om totaal 69 aaneengesloten weken.
Op het moment dat dat woord is uitgegaan mochten een aantal Joden naar het land terugkeren. Toen begon een periode van zeventig weken (490 jaar). Ná die zeventig weken zou alle ongerechtigheid van Israël verzoend zijn en zou er een eeuwige gerechtigheid zijn aangebracht.
Gedurende de 69 weken zou men wederkeren en de stad Jeruzalem (her)bouwen. Na die 69 weken zou de Messias uitgeroeid worden. Het is zeer opmerkelijk dat er niet staat “in de zeventigste week”.
Tot het einde toe zou er krijg (= oorlog) zijn. Dit wordt nog steeds ná de 69 weken genoemd. De zeventigste week is in deze profetie van Daniël 9 nog steeds niet genoemd. Die laatste week wordt pas in vers 27 genoemd. Dit betekent dat er een bepaalde tijd verloopt tussen het einde van de 69 weken en het begin van de zeventigste week.
Tot op “Messias de Vorst” vinden we een aaneengesloten periode van 69 weken (= 483 jaar). Deze 69 weken waren – volgens Sir Robert Anderson in “The coming Prince” – exact (tot op de dag nauwkeurig!) voorbij op de dag dat de Heer Jeruzalem naderde. Dit staat bekend als de zogenaamde intocht in Jeruzalem.
