Mysterious pentacle ignites controversy

An image of a giant pentacle carved into the ground ignited a lot of conspiracies this week. The 1200-foot 5-pointed star first appeared on Google Earth but resurfaced on a popular science blog on Thursday. There is a lot of debate on what or who inscribed the symbol.

The pentacle is located in a remote region of Kazakhstan at the southern shore of the Upper Tobol Reservoir. LisaKovsk, the closest populated city is 12 miles to the east.

The area where the star is etched is filled with ancient archaeological ruins and burial grounds that haven’t even been explored yet. No one has an explanation why the symbol is where it is located or who carved it there.
