Top 10 Monsters in the Bible

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

You are probably well aware that the Bible is not just filled with feel good stories. In fact there are some pretty ferocious beasts mentioned in the Bible. I want to take a closer look today at some of the worst beast that were mentioned in the Bible. Enjoy learning about the top 10 monsters in the Bible!

10. The Cockatrice
The Cockatrice is mentioned for the first time in 1382 in John Wyclif’s translation of the Bible. It is a 2 legged dragon with a rooster’s head. The abilities of the cockatrice are believed to be turning people to stone and being able to kill people by looking at them, touching them or breathing on them. It was mentioned multiple times in the book of Isaiah. Don’t look for it in modern versions of the Bible. In modern versions it is described as a viper.

9. The First Beast
The most Biblical monsters by far, can be found in the book of Revelation. The First Beast is one of them. It is a monster with 7 heads and 10 horns that rises up from the ocean. It has the mouth of a lion and the feat of a bear. Nowadays there are some theories floating around that are trying to proof that Barrack Obama is the one being described as the First Beast…

8. The Second Beast
Also to be found in the book of revelation. It features 2 horns and it speaks like a dragon. Today the second beast would best be described as a bodyguard or enforcer for the first beast. The two beasts work together. A quote from revelation 13:11,12: “Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.”

7. The Behemoth
This beast appears in the book of Job. It is described in that book as a giant, extremely powerful creature that can only be tamed by God. This probably explains the modern use for the word Behemoth; an extremely large and/or powerful entity. Not much can be found on this creature but the fact that only God can tame it earned the beast a spot in the top 10.

6. Abaddon’s Locusts
Another example of Biblical beasts that can be found in Revelation. It’s an army of horses ruled by Abaddon, an angel who is also known as ‘the Destroyer’. The horses that he leads aren’t your typical horses either. They can sting with their tail like a scorpion, the have manlike faces and they wear armored breastplates.

From here on out it gets REALLY bad. The number 5 spot alone beholds some beasts that are believed to have been responsible for wiping out a third of all mankind at one point. Take a break from all the evil if you have to but make sure to check out the top 5 at some point in this fast paced, educational video below!

Leviathan / 7 headed dragon are the same creature as Apep / Lotan / Typhon / Jormungandr – the chaos serpent, embodiment of chaos itself (hence also the association with the ocean). This creatures crops up again and again in mythology, embodying the power and principle of chaos.
