Did Jesus Die to Abolish the Laws of Moses or to Uphold the Importance of the Law?

By Matt McHale

There are many, these days, who believe that the Messiah’s death signifies that we are no longer under Mosiac Law (Torah/Laws of Moses). The worst words we could hear from our Messiah is “I never knew you, depart from me”. This is what compelled me to take a deep look into this topic, which led to many insights that are necessary to share.

We are not to take man’s word but God’s Word alone to better understand these crucial details. I invite you to follow along yourself to test the Scriptures in this article, to gain a better understanding of its full meaning. This will assure you that it is not taken out of context or twisted outside of its meaning to make a point. We will be taking an in-depth look into how Scripture itself tells, without a doubt, whether Moses Laws/Torah still apply to us today.

It is important to come to your own conclusions through the insights of the Holy Spirit. So please be sure to follow along yourself. The two Translations used are “Kings James Version” and “The Scriptures 2009″. Bible.com will have both of these translations for you. You will also need both the Greek and Hebrew Strongs Concordance on Biblehub to break down words for deeper meanings; I have also provided direct links for you to investigate when we get there. I ask that you do not take my word alone; my role is merely to guide you along the way. Let’s jump into some Scripture.

[The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.] Isaiah 40:8

[For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.] Malachi 3:6

[Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.] Proverbs 30:5-6

These verses above tell us the Word of God shall stand forever, He is Unchanging, and His Word is Pure. The keywords here are forever, unchanging, and pure. Before Messiah, what does the Bible say about the Word of God, and what defines the Word of God?

[And when He had made an end of speaking with him on Mount Sinai, He gave Moses two tablets of the Testimony, tablets of stone, written with the finger of God.] Exodus 31:18

[And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on these tablets the words that were on the first tablets which you broke.] Exodus 34:1

[So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the Lord God of Israel. And the children of the Levites bore the ark of God on their shoulders, by its poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the Lord.] I Chronicles 15:14‭-‬15

[And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it is a sign between Me and you throughout your generations, that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people.] Exodus 31:12‭-‬14

[All the words I am commanding you, guard to do it – do not add to it nor take away from it.] Deuteronomy 12:32

The Words of God are the words spoken to Moses and prophets before and after Moses. The Laws are to be followed through all generations. So God’s Words are the Laws of Moses. The Laws are substantiated by the prophets before Moses and mirrored by the prophets after Moses. These Laws of Moses and the prophets “stand forever”, are “unchanging”, they are “pure”, and we are not to “add to or take away” from these Laws. So what does Messiah have to say regarding his affiliation to the Law?

[“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled."] Matthew 5:17‭-‬18

[“Therefore, whatever you wish men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Torah and the Prophets."] Matthew 7:12

The Hebrew Strongs concordance defines Law as “Torah” (The first 5 books of your Bible, also known as Moses’ Law). The Hebrew Strongs Concordance for fulfill means to “confirm, consecrate, require, ordain, refresh, and live”. Messiah did not come to destroy the Torah, but to live Torah and confirm its importance. So what can we glean from this passage out of Messiah’s mouth? I’ll use two translations here because they both lead to the same point but in different ways.

[“Many shall say to Me in that day, ‘Master, Master, have we not prophesied in Your Name, and cast out demons in Your Name, and done many mighty works in Your Name?’ “And then I shall declare to them, ‘I never knew you, depart from Me, you who work lawlessness!’] Matthew 7:22‭-‬23 TS2009

[Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.] Matthew 7:22‭-‬23 KJV

We have already confirmed that the Law means Torah. So lawlessness means Torah-lessness. But where does that word ‘iniquity’ come from? If you look up the Greek Strongs Concordance for iniquity it means “lawlessness”, but there is a Greek root word for it. “Anomia” also meaning “lawlessness”; the root word of anomia is “nomos“. Nomos literally means “Mosaic Law”, or the first five books of the Bible (Torah). So when you add the extra verbiage to it; Messiah is saying, “I do not know you transgressors of Moses’ Laws”.

So in conclusion – God’s Word is forever, meaning through all generations; His Word never changes, and is to be heeded as a covenant between yourself and Him; His Words are the Laws spoken to Moses and God’s prophets, they should not be added to or taken away from; His Words are Pure. Messiah did not come to destroy God’s Laws, for God is Unchanging, but Messiah came to live out the Laws of Moses and refresh our understanding of them. Messiah came to show us how to live a life that is pleasing to God, including keeping the Feasts. Messiah kept God’s Feasts, Sabbaths, and Commands; Messiah’s Disciples continued these Feasts, Sabbaths, and Commands after his death and resurrection.

I hope this analysis helps you come to a deeper understanding of the importance of keeping the Torah, which encompasses God’s Laws, Commands, and Feasts. May Elohim lead you to many insights through the following of his Torah.

May Elohim bless all of you, my brothers and sisters of His Kingdom.

      Absolutely right, thank you.

He spake not his own words but the Father’s who sent h8m, … he never changed any of his Father’s words, because they are perfect, and he perf3ctly lived them, and 5AUGHT all to live by them, it 8s an 8nsane satanic doctrine that anythibg was ab9l8shed
SATAN has made 8t his mission to try to turn man against I A U E ‘s ways from the start…. he is against love and life, which are inherent in the laws of I A U E

the laws of I A U E are intrinsic to life

The thoughts, words and laws ( ways) of I A U E are borne of love : the reason He made life in the first place: love

I concur with your position brother. Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Think we can all agree that “all has not been fulfilled.” Thank you brother for clarifying this significant truism for those still confused by the false doctrine of Christendom. At this stage of God’s plan truth is of unprecedented importance. Your godly campaign to inform is commendable. Your good works will not be forgotten.

Thank for your feedback Brother. The more this position is challenged, the stronger the defense becomes for the Law. 2 Peter 3:14-18 warns of Paul’s teachings being twisted to the delusion of lawlessness. Most of the people whom state that he law was abolished use Paul’s words. But I kindly lead them back to Messiah’s own words that contridict that notion. I worry Pauls words have been twisted in translation as many of his teachings seem to contradict Messiah’s. But that is another topic all together. The Strongs Concordance for “word” means “command” and “decree” as well. So when you read “God’s word”, it really is saying ‘God’s Commands’.
