The Last Days Series #11 “The Importance of Jerusalem”

Jerusalem? What is the significance of this sliver of land which stretches about 24 miles long and is roughly 9 miles wide at its longest point. Certainly not a large city, but it seems to be commanding the attention of many, especially in these last days. To answer this question, we must look at things through a religious perspective.

Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, and resurrected in Jerusalem. This is indeed a Holy Land, where you could say that heaven and earth have intertwined. To me it is still quite humbling to know that Jesus was actually here upon the earth. He was here physically, and not just in the pages of our history. Amazing!

Satan and his followers have every intention to try and wipe out everything that is associated with Jesus Christ. They try to sway all of us away from His teachings and all that He has promised us. It is their eventual goal to destroy His birthplace, Jerusalem, and claim it for his own. For you see, to him, this would be like defeating Jesus Himself. He craves this more than anything.

God knew this would be a major focus of Satan trying to destroy Jerusalem in the last days. It was so important that He actually has given us several promises and council which are written in the bible.

Zechariah 12:9 “And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”

Zachariah 14: 11-12 “And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.”

12  “And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.” 

Verse 12 almost sounds like the enemy will be destroyed by a nuclear weapon.

So, as we see several nations that are now threatening to destroy Jerusalem and the nation of Israel, what do you think the outcome will be after reading these scriptures? When you see the display of their armed forces that they plan to use against Israel, do you think they even have a chance to destroy God’s sacred land?

So why do Christians stand with Israel? The simple answer is that our “Commander in Chief”, God, has let us know how important this land is to Him, and we should accept this fact in a similar manner. I feel strongly that we should do our part in protecting this land if we are so called to do so. We would essentially be fighting for God through our service, and not be fighting because our broken government says to do it.

From what we have just learned, is there any way that man, even with the assistance of Satan and his army, could defeat God? I would like for you to honestly answer that question in your own mind? Do you see this as a possibility, or are you 100% of the opinion that God will always keep His promises, and has the ultimate power to defeat any resistance that comes before Him?

How you answer this question is an indication of your testimony and level of belief in God. If your belief is wavering, I invite you to keep an eye on Jerusalem, and see if God’s promise is true. You will see that the Army’s will not be able to defeat Israel, just like He told us.

This is also a good time to consider all of the other promises that God has given to us. Understanding what He has promised should give you incredible peace as we see our world turn upside down. We are fortunate to have such a book as the Bible, that gives us those promises, as well as other important spiritual guidance for us to follow the battle plan that He has laid out for us.

Proverbs 3:5&6  “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Psalms 28:7  ”The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

These scriptures are not just a “motivational speech,” but are actually God speaking to you. Your Father is aware of the situation that you are in and the uncertainty that the world events are bringing to you. Listen to what He is saying. His words are meant to give your direction as well as comfort and peace. There are many more of His words that He desires for you discover.

Today, I would like you to see those additional things. Here is your assignment: After saying a prayer for more understanding, type in something that you would like to know into Google, followed by the version of the bible that you use for study. I have attached the various translations of the bible for you to consider. Currently, the two most used translations of the Bible are the KJV, and the NIV.

Using this google search method is a very convenient way to find the scripture verses that answer some of the questions that you might have. It ties the answer directly to your question, which helps in understanding what the scripture is trying to say to you.

You are all praying more frequently, and now, spending more time studying the words of God in the scriptures. By doing these things, you are responding to what God has asked you to do in learning of Him and preparing for the upcoming battle.

Cut and paste the things that you are learning, so that you can use these writings to give you peace when you are discouraged, or fearful. As you continue to strengthen your relationship with God, you will see that the closer you are to Him, the cares of this world will become insignificant.
