The Last Days Series #12 “The Return of Jesus Christ”

When I was young, I remember thinking that the last days was solely the event when Christ returned to the Earth. I associated this day with all of the foretold destruction of the world that I had been taught. This made me fear Jesus! A fear not associated with respect, but seeing Him in the role of a destroyer and not a Savior. In my young life I would continually pray that He would never hurt me like that. 

Throughout my years of learning, I have come to know Jesus Christ as the being that He truly is. Loving, kind, wise, forgiving, gentle, compassionate, trustworthy, and a peace promoter rather than a destroyer.

For several reasons that I will not mention, I have not had a hero figure in my life. Someone who I see as THE person that I would like to become. Someone that would give me a model of the characteristics that I would like to pattern my life after. But I can tell you that my brother… Jesus Christ, has filled that HERO void in my life.

He has always been my go-to in life for understanding, comfort, council, forgiveness, love, encouragement and self-worth. I have tried to be more like Him, especially in my “older” years. This is the Jesus that I write of today.

As discussed in previous chapters of this series, there are many, many events that will take place prior to the second coming of Christ. Perhaps these specific things are commanding your attention, as you are wanting to keep up on where we are through this process. However, I would like us to focus on THE event that is so wonderful and enduring, that I’m humbled to even write about it.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ will be the ushering in of a peaceful world, which has been impossible for us to create thus far on planet Earth. I have spent my entire life praying, searching, and trying to live in a peaceful environment with minimal impact. Have you done this as well?

We look for neighborhoods to move into where we might find others who are loving and peaceful. We try to get involved in the community to influence peace and harmony in our cities and government. We officiate in disputes with our children from people who have wronged them… and the list goes on, and on. Despite all of our efforts, our world is such a terrible “unpeaceful” environment.

Further scripture indicates:

Revelation 6:4 “And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”

Has this happened yet? You might argue that it has already occurred, as we see the slaughter of many happening right now in the Middle East. I must say, that I fear things will only intensify as we let the scriptures playout. 

But, GLORIOUS news has also been given to those who follow Christ. An answer to a lifetime prayer is coming. Jesus will return to Earth in the last days to fulfill God’s divine plan, bringing ultimate peace, justice, and restoration to the world. 

One significant Bible passage related to the concept of peace in the last days is found in the book of Isaiah in the Old Testament:

Isaiah 2:4 “And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”

This verse is often interpreted as a promise of global peace during the reign of the Messiah.

Additionally, the New Testament, particularly in the book of Revelation, describes a vision of the end times where there will be a new heaven and a new earth. In this renewed creation, there will be no more sorrow, pain, or death, and God will dwell among His people,

Revelation 21:1-4  “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

This peaceful and harmonious existence is this Great News of end times.
We find comfort and hope in the belief that, despite the challenges and tribulations in the world, God’s ultimate plan is to establish peace and justice through the return of Jesus Christ. This expectation of peace in the last days serves as a source of encouragement for believers and a reminder of the fulfillment of God’s promises.

Can you imagine such an existence? Can you even comprehend an environment to raise your family? We will only be surrounded by “like minded” peaceful people who are loving and kind. Sin will be removed from our thoughts, as Satan will no longer be able to influence our decisions. Those around us will look to serve others first, and the bond of love will be deep and contagious.

No corruption in government, as it will be Jesus that will be our leader. No more fight in the righteous to try to establish right from wrong, as it will be nothing BUT right. No worldly emotions of trying to keep up with the neighbors in material things. It will be a world that we can only imaging right now, as it will indeed be that perfect.

This is what the “Last Days” are all about. This is what we have been praying for. This should be our ultimate focus right now. We will endure the challenges that we might face in the coming years, because we KNOW that this will be our reward. Never loose sight of this. Knowing this outcome will give us peace today, regardless of our circumstances.

You have been patient, and valiant in sticking up for the righteous things that you believe, and in supporting God and His son Jesus Christ. Your reward for doing such is now so very close.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you reading these posts, as well as all of my other brothers and sisters in Christ. This will be a glorious reunion. A celebration of successfully completing our earthly trials, and being allowed to all be together living in the mansions that God has prepared for us.

I do not know most of you, but I feel deep inside that I kind of already do. Perhaps you can relate. Together we share the same cause. I’m excited to create new friendships as we spend time doing things together. Never lonely, always fulfilled.

Until then, listen to the whispers of our “Commander”, and follow your promptings. I will continue to pray for all of you and your safety. Please pray for me.

Oh… the stories that we will all have to share with one another as we reunite in the “Glory of God!”
