Did Sarah Palin Flee Obama in Hawaii?
Sarah Palin cut short her Hawaiian vacation last week, with the odd excuse that she was afraid “fellow vacationers were bothered” by her presence. It didn’t make much sense and sounded like a clumsy excuse, or maybe an attempt at martyrdom. Taking one for vacationers everywhere!
But now Barack Obama is vacationing in Hawaii himself. Did Palin get the word early and flee the islands before Obama and Michelle could show her up in the papers? Or in case they might have an awkward encounter while boogie boarding on the same beach?
Obama will be on Oahu, and Palin was on Maui, so chances of that boogie board mash-up were pretty slim. The two islands are 70 miles apart. Also, Palin had a book signing in Wasilla yesterday, which we assume was pre-arranged. If so, she would have been off the islands before Obama arrived.
Still, we can’t resist the vision of Air Force One buzzing the Maui coastline, possibly with a little waggle of the wings, on the way past to Oahu. What’s the point of being president if you can’t have a little fun?
