Sarah Palin Makes Headlines on Multiple Fronts
Former governor of Alaska and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is making headlines for more than one reason. While Palin is not currently in politics, her recent best selling book, various public comments on big issues, and “flaps” caught by paparazzi are keeping her near the top of the news.
According to numerous media reports, including one in the Phoenix News Times, last week Palin was spotted on a beach in Hawaii wearing a McCain for President visor–with McCain’s name crossed out. McCain, commenting on what has been dubbed visor-gate, said he didn’t mind.
“Oh, it’s fine. Sarah said she wanted to be a little bit incognito,” McCain says. “I don’t blame her. I understand that.”
The fallout over the visor was big enough that Palin released a statement saying there is no bad blood between her and McCain. But she wasn’t as polite to the photographer who captured her image, tweeting: “So cut sunny vacation short (thanks, desperate paparazzi).”
Another news website, DailyIndia.com, notes that according to a panel of experts, Palin has gained the title of telling the ‘biggest lie of the year’ in 2009. According to the Telegraph, she got there after an infamous comment on her Facebook page about Obama’s health care plan.
“My parents or my baby with Down syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama’s ‘death panel’ so his bureaucrats can decide whether they are worthy of health care,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying on her Facebook page. But the comment was shot down by the website PolitiFact.com, which said there were no plans for so-called death panels.
Palin’s death panel comment is currently ranked as PolitiFact’s Lie of the Year.
More recently, Palin blasted the Copenhagen climate summit, calling it the ‘ignorance of man’ to think man had anything to do with the changes in the environment, or could control it in any way.
MSNBC is also threatening to name Palin ‘whack job of the year’, according to the website the raw story. MSNBC will announce the final picks on Dec. 29.
