As I look at the DD458 form showing the charges brought against Brad Manning’s Wikileaks case, I noticed many items that are inconsistent of a true DD458 document. I am working on a report to present as we speak, but want to point this out before the media gets a hold and falsely paints a picture that is incorrect.
Just to state one glaring oversight, is the BACK of a DD458 form is much different then the one presented. The form can be downloaded here

I have extensive knowledge of PhotoShop and am well educated on forgery techniques and document editing per computer and physical methods.
I will stake my reputation on it, and say without a doubt the document AS IT IS OFFERED here online, shows serious signs of digital manipulation and, has been re-typeset and is forged. In addition it shows signs of being cut and pasted leaving out key pieces of evidence that is visible on an authentic DD 458 form. The evidence pertains to the person or persons bringing the charges, and most importantly the receipt by summary court martial convening authority. This document is a piece of paper that anyone could have thrown together especially since it has no signature of Manning or the Courts.
As stated in R.C.M 308(a) the witness as to the person in custody and is being charges is sworn to be in fact that person is not present. If so, any persons listed on the document could be charged with falsifying a federal document along with many other charges that come with it. The absence of this key information is also suspect in my opinion.

The Case for Bradley Manning – The Wikileaks whistleblower Round 2.
The charges stated on Bradley Manning’s DD FORM 458 documents, may be authentic, but the same cant be said for the documents themselves. If the charges were real, there would be no need to fake the paperwork..
Objective: Compare the documents presented online, that’s reported to be the DD FORM 458 document for Bradley Manning, to that of a known authentic DD FORM 458 document downloaded from the .mil address below.

After comparing just the first page, I am able to say without hesitation that we are looking at fraudulent documents. Missing signatures, along with a missing page 2 all add up to fraud. The pages that claim to be additional, have grammatical, and formatting errors, and are on plane white paper with no official markings. I didn’t even waist my time presenting them as you can see for yourself this whole thing stinks.
An individual caught forging federal documents can face years in prison depending on the severity of the situation. In addition, if that person works for a licensed media organization, and evidence shows they were complaisant to the crime, they could face heavy fines from the FCC since they would be in direct violation of the guidelines pertaining to publishing known fraudulent documents. The following are the notes I made while comparing the documents. Remember I didn’t feel the need to continue to the second page because the page provided is not a real second page of a DD FORM 458 document.

Vertical running lines leading us to believe this was faxed then scanned and the image was then compressed for the web.

Side vertical line shows signs of either manipulation or fax machine glitch

Horizontal line running under the words a. BASIC, b. SEA/FOREIGN DUTY, and c. TOTAL are not present on authentic DD FORM 485, MAY 2000 (DD485).

The Abbreviation for Middle Initial, MI is not used on authentic DD458

The words “VIOLATION OF THE UCMJ, ARTICLE” are not centered as seen on a authentic DD458.

Vertical spacing between text and top of box, and position from side to text is inconsistent with Authentic DD485

Text CHARGE I: is not consistent to “CHARGE: I” as on an authentic DD485 form
Note: The form is a predefined Adobe Editable PDF File. The field text is set and not editable, but the field information is. Therefor spacing, leading, tracking, positioning, Font change, and formatting is not adjustable.

The text “SPECIFICATION 1:” is inconsistent to an authentic DD485 form that reads “SPECIFICATION: 1”

Positioning of “a. INITIAL DATE” test is to far to the left and inconsistent with an authentic DD485

Positioning of “III. PREFERRAL” and “b.GRADE” text are inconsistent to one another as per a authentic DD458

No signature or sign of masking out to protect the identity are present. Making this an invalid form. Reasons for omitting this are possibly to not incriminate the person creating this document.

Font is incorrect. Notice the leg of the “y” and compare it to the official DD458 form.

Why is his Duty pay cropped out, Showing the Duty pay would confirm his status and verify his allowances confirming his identity. This is suspect.

Text error “-” is “_” on original and is not editable.

Spacing between top of text and box are not consistent

Faded portion of text shows signs of possible tampering

Text 5 with underline has been placed on top of field. This is not possible in the editable authentic DD485 formatting

Pay Grade is in correct to the Base Pay grade of an E-3 which is 1692.00 after 3-6 years of service. A Basic pay for an E-4 is 1843.00

Text “CHARGE SHEET” is inconsistent with authentic DD458

The text “he” and “his” are “he/she” and “his/her” on authentic document and are not editable.

Text “2d” is “2nd” this is like spelling you own name wrong and would NOT happen on an official document.
As for the additional pages, as I mentioned they do not fit the correct format and so are not even considered part of an official DD FORM 458.

1. The accused does not sign the charge sheet.
2. The courts don’t sign the charge sheet.
3. This looks like many charge sheets that have been prepared and then faxed around, possibly faxed out by the flak for the military unit.
4. The form of the charges looks consistent with how they would be written using a combination of the Manual for Courts-Martial and the MJ Benchbook. And I’ve been reading charge sheets for a total of 31 years now.
5. I do agree whoever posted merely took the important pages and put them cobbled together into one document.
