How to Search for Hidden Coupons Online

Coupons have become a bigger and bigger business online as more people realize that they can save money on products they were going to buy anyway and businesses realize that they can get more customers. However, sometimes finding those customers can be a bit of a task because they are either hidden deep in the search engines or there is just a bunch of garbage that people “say” are coupons.

I run a coupon propagation website, so it’s my job to ensure that people are able to find the coupons that I’ve found of other websites. I have products such as Navteq and Island Surf listed on my site and people are able to find what they are looking for. Naturally, if someone is able to find the coupon for you and list it on their site—like I did—then that saves time.

But, let’s be honest…If it was that simple, we’d never have to search in Google for coupons using phrases such as “Old Navy Coupons” and things like that. Unfortunately, coupons remain hidden. I’ve got a few ways in which you can find different coupons. While they’re not rocket science, they are ways that are overlooked.

Lengthen Your Search in Google

The basic way that a search engine works is that users type keywords in and Google searches its massive database to find who they feel is the best result for that keyword. Unfortunately, it’s very easy for people to game search engines for keywords. So, let’s say you were looking for “Old Navy Coupons,” you might never find what you were looking for because people gamed the search engine.

However, by adding words to the end of the search, you create what is known as a long tail keyword. Say if you now searched for “Old Navy T-Shirt Coupons,” suddenly you’d narrow down what you were looking for. Maybe the coupon is a buy one get one. Regardless of the type, you are more likely to get the specific coupon you’re looking for. Because you’re not stuck going through all the garbage for the more basic “Old Navy Coupon,” you’re going to rank higher.

Search on Social Media

On Twitter, there is an interesting feature called search. Wait, what? Search again? Yes, but this time, instead of utilizing Google which has been spammed like crazy, use Twitter which hasn’t been spammed.

Go to Twitter and sign in. Then, at the top, you’ll see the search bar. Type in what you want to find. Maybe you just want to find coupons or perhaps you want to find a specific type. Type in what you’re looking for and Twitter will show you Tweets with that specific information.

Surprisingly, many companies have their own Twitter accounts that they use to keep in contact with their customers. So, many times, they might Tweet out their own coupons, so it doesn’t hurt to follow the brands that you are a fan of and a constant customer. Island Surf, for example, does this on a regular basis with coupons like 25% off.

Coupons are Good

Because of a lot of the couponing shows that have popped up, couponing has gained a bit of a negative opinion. And serial couponing or letting it control your life is dangerous. However, saving 25% off on a product you were going to buy anyway is a good thing. The economy is rough and saving money is important.

But, if you’re going to coupon, save yourself some time and lengthen your searches. By getting specific, you’ll find precisely what you’re looking for which will limit the amount of time you’re searching. Or, consider using Twitter. It’s actually amazing how many coupons I’ve found due to Twitter.
