And now Google Maps won’t work too!

With Google trying to block a quality YouTube app from the Windows Phone stable, the war between the software giants just shot up a notch. But now, looks like WP users are unable to use Google Maps on their WP browsers (as is seen in this post from neowin).

Conspiracy theory? Evil corporation? Lack of fair-play spirit?

Folks at mashable have tried to offer an explanation for this phenomenon by quoting that this is to do with the rendering and that Google maps has never worked on WP browsers. Apparently Google is a big supporter of the WebKit rendering engine and IE isn’t part of the brigade that does this and so Google maps was never to work on IE. But there are apparently a few holes in this story as is clear in the user comments.

Apparently Google maps WAS working on WP until a recent update was pushed through
Google maps worked on WP7 for a long time
It works on Opera and Firefox – which are NOT WebKit ready
The site works if you can mask your user agent to miror an android ID
The UK version maps apparently works fine – so does that NOT use WebKit rendering?

Lets just say we are not totally convinced of this explanation and Google might not be completely blameless. For now through WP users can rejoice in having the rich experience of Bing Maps and Nokia Maps that more than make up for your navigational requirements.

Looks like Windows Phone is the cause for sleepless nights for SOME folks at Google. Otherwise why these unfair tactics?
