Brits test a new way of creating a child with three parents
Britain would allow the controversial technique of creating children using DNA of three people, a move that could help couples make their children do not inherit the rare genetic disease.
New technology will help women with “deficient“ mitochondria that the children do not inheret defects that can result in diseases such as muscular dystrophy, epilepsy, heart problems, or mental retardation. One in 200 children are born each year in the UK with mitochondrial disorder.
For women with low mitochondria, scientists would take a healthy genetic material from the egg or emriona. Then he was transferred to the donor egg - an embryo that has healthy mitochondria, but the rest of the core DNA was removed. Thus, the fertilized embryo would be inserted into the womb of the mother.
Some groups opposed to artificial reproduction and believe that the destruction of eggs is immoral.
