All iPhone 5 service and warranty agreements now come with a standard term that states users who take their iPhone to a third party to fix the iPhone screen will void the entire warranty. This means that even if you find a third party who can fix the iPhone for you without costing as much, then you would void your entire warranty.

However, they point out that a certain element of proof is required for Apple to refuse to honor the warranty. In other words, they need to be able to demonstrate that you had the screen replaced.

The proof though might be easier to find than some consumers think. According to “Apple Increases Identification Methods,” the Apple team is trained to look for certain alterations. Wearing around the screw plate, for instance, is often seen as an indication of a possible warranty voiding change, though it must be combined with other elements to result in a fully voided warranty.

Finding Someone Who Knows What He’s Doing

Ultimately, Cult of Mac states that people will continue to use third parties to fix their iPhones. While many people love their iPhones, spending $149 or $159 for a cracked screen that counts as a full iPhone replacement is more than most people are willing to accept. Most of the problems that come from having a third party repair your iPhone come from a lack of knowledge and professional skills. They inadvertently make matters worse with the iPhone or cause a larger problem that they cannot fix. If you decide that you are willing to risk voiding your warranty, then you need to find a repairman who knows what he’s doing. You can ask for references if you like. Most of the time, these repairmen are more than willing to show you their expertise and provide you with all the information you need before they work on your iPhone and void the warranty.
