Get The Moto X’s Quick Capture And Active Notifications On Your Phone Now

The Motorola X has quite a bit going for it even considering the not-so-flagship hardware specs. The overall package of hardware and software (plus customization) is pretty enticing.

If you’re the type to fawn over software goodies, you’re in luck. Two of the most unique features found on the upcoming Moto X — Active Notifications and Quick Capture — can be had on your very non-Motorola phone right now… provided you’re running Android 4.3. Admittedly, most people aren’t at this point. Nevertheless, the developer behind the two ported apps says support for older versions of Android is in the works.

All that said, the ActiveNotifications app which can be downloaded in the Play Store isn’t quite as robust as the built-in offering on the Moto X. For example, the “breathing” feature which lights up the screen every now and then to re-alert you to pending alerts isn’t there (but it’s coming too).

The Quick Capture look-a-like called “TwistyLauncher” is also available via the Google Play Store for a limited number of devices. One nice advantage over the Moto X’s Quick Capture is that there are three different gestures to activate the camera with. Though, all of them seem more involved than what tapping a simple icon or camera button would offer. But, choices.
