Review: Kubxlab Ultra Thin Case For iPhone 5

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

We were sent the Ultra Thin Case from Kubxlab a couple weeks ago, and I’ve been using it ever since, well, I could barely tell I was using it, but it looked like I was. To preface this review, this case is extremely damn thin. I’ll get to all the good and the bad, but seriously, it’s freakin thin! Is it too thin? Does it protect your phone? Does it do anything? We’ll get to that and maybe a few extra words after you stare at the picture above for a little bit longer.

Design

This case is unbelievably thin, I mean seriously, it’s crazy how little there is to this case. A thin and tough feeling plastic covers up the sides of your iPhone 5 while a slab of sexy wood drapes the back. There are a few different colors of wood you can get, but we chose to rock the dark wood for this review, and I’ll have to say that it looks beautiful wrapped around the black iPhone. On the rear wood grain is the Kubxlab logo in metal, not in an obtrusive way either, which I like, it keeps with the minimalistic design. There are cut outs for the camera, as well as the buttons on the side. The one thing I am not really a fan of is the open bottom, leaving your iPhone unprotected to attacks to the crap in your pocket.

Sitting at only 0.39mm thin, this case is in every way shape and form deserving of the name it has been given. When the iPhone 5 was shipped, I loved how incredibly thin it was. I didn’t want to sacrifice that by protecting it’s delicate flesh, but we all know that we have to. Your iPhone 5 will get a scratch if your mom drops her Samsung Galaxy S3, it’s that sensitive. So we have to sacrifice it if we want to ensure we don’t ding or scuff it’s beautiful skin. I personally hate big and bulky cases, they take away from the beauty that Apple has made us pay so much money for. This is the exact reason I hunt for thin cases, and I found one of the nicest to date.

So Damn Thin

The Ultra Thin Case is so thin. If you don’t usually drop your phone, so only scratches and scuffs scare you, this case adds minimal protection all while having a subtle style that isn’t flash or annoying. This case hugs your iPhone better than I’ve seen with any other case. It’s actually interesting as you slide the phone into the case, it seems it wont fit. But even as a plastic bumper, it slides around your phone like a soft material case would, but doesn’t slide off. If you are like me, you hate putting cases on your iPhones. I always have. I’ve tried to get away with just a protective skin from BodyGuardz or ZAGG. But since the iPhone 5 is annoyingly susceptible to scratches, I’ve had to find other routes, and this is that route.

The case feels great in your hand too. This is another huge win for me. A lot of cases are bulky and just don’t feel natural or comfortable when you are holding them. This isn’t the case with Kubxlab’s offering. The plastic bumper part of the case feels great when paired with the wood you have on the back. It’s just that good.

So, I think I’ve touched on how thin it is, if not, I’ll head back to it…IT’S THIN. Not only is it thin, but it weighs like thing. Seriously… Weighing in at only 5g, this guy is practically not even a case as much as it is the idea of a case. There are 10 different styles to choose from, the original 3 wood designs/colors, and recently adding 7 other high end styles that resemble snake and lizard skins. I am not a huge fan of these higher end designs, but the Dark Wood is absolutely gorgeous.

Wrap Up

So, without sounding like a Jenny Craig spokesman, this case is thin. If you really only worry about your iPhone getting a scratch, but want something more than just a protective film, the Kubxlab Ultra Thin Case is for you. Not too flashy, but definitely adds a bit of style.

One issue I can see with this case, because of how thin it is, is the fact that it lays flush with the screen of the iPhone, meaning you can lay it face down without some sort of worry there. Just don’t lay it face down, but it’s something I try to mention with every case I review.

The case retails for $29.95 no matter the design you choose. So gorgeous, stylish and thin protection isn’t that expensive as you might think. We highly recommend the Dark Wood version of this case, maybe the Light Wood if you have a white iPhone, but some of the rest of the design choices are definitely not in our list of most wanted.
