Review: Musubo Chamfer Case For The iPhone 5

An iPhone case is an iPhone case, we really don’t jump for joy unless it is rugged or has a battery built in, other than that, they are a dime a doze. This doesn’t mean we won’t test em and let you know if the it’s worth your hard earned bucks, and sometimes during these reviews we find a case that we love and will use again and again. A couple months ago, I was sent the Musubo Chamfer case for the iPhone 5. I was just in the middle of a move and it got lost in a box (as well as a handful of other cases we’ll try to work through) but we found it a couple of weeks ago and decided we’d give it a shot, and I’ll lead into this interview by saying I’m glad I did.

Design & Usage

The Chamfer case is pretty much like every other hardshell snap on case you’ve used. There really isn’t much you can do with a case like this, they are pretty much all the same. The Chamfer case does have some slight differences that I really love, first off is the size of the case, it’s thick all while being thin. This is really hard to explain without holding the case in your hand, I didn’t notice this until having it on my iPhone and using it. The case itself is a tad bit thicker than your everyday snap-on case but it offset by the chamfered edge it has on one side of the case. The bevel on the one side is more extreme than the others so it really gives a slim yet comfortable design. The design doesn’t scream cutting edge or something you’ll want to tell everyone about, but once you slap it on your iPhone you’ll know that using it is much more rewarding than looking at it.

The case leaves the top and bottom of your iPhone unprotected, as most snap-on cases do, but a neat feature with the Chamfer is that it has it’s own volume buttons, so it adds protection to a usually left open part of the iPhone. This isn’t a huge deal, but it’s a nice touch and makes the volume buttons easier to get to since there is dedicated covers. This brings me to the rest of the ports and buttons, everything is extremely easy to get to and use. The ports at the bottom and top are both left open so no worries there, and the mute toggle is unobstructed by the case. The camera cutout doesn’t obstruct picture taking or the flash.

The last thing I want to mention about the design is probably my favorite part, the soft-touch rubber coating on the case matched with the chamfered edge makes this thing one of the – if not the most – comfortable case I’ve ever used. When the few days was up and it was time to move to another review, I couldn’t make myself take the case off. I liked it that much and will probably go back to it as my in-between review go-to case.

Final Thoughts

Musubo makes fashionable cases at an affordable price. They make the attempt to get away from what you would normally think an iPhone case is. I’ve seen some not-so-stellar options (The Angry Bull Case, WTF) from them, but overall, I’ve been pleased with what I’ve used and reviewed so far but the Chamfer case is by far the most enjoyable case I’ve used from them.

The case has simple in design, by just offering a slit bevel on all edges with one side having the larger one, but that’s what I like. I love simple. The Chamfer does seems strong enough to withstand a decent bump or fall because of its thickness without adding a lot of bulk to your hand. Like all Musubo cases, it ships with a screen protector and a little stand for resting your iPhone on to watch a flick. The Chamfer case is only $12.99, ships in 7 different colors. I definitely can recommend this case, it’s comfortable, slim, soft and offers a crazy amount of grip. I love it and will definitely be using it in the future.
