Samsung’s Octo-Core Galaxy S4 Comes To The U.S., LTE No Where In Sight

Mobile processors are hurtling through the space time continuum, one-upping their previous incarnation in more and more dramatic ways. But as much as is upgrades (and shrunken down), the big problem that bleeding edge, multi-core processors seems to have is handling LTE. Until someone makes a completely integrated, multi-band LTE chip, at least one extra chip is needed. And in phones which are constantly racing to be the thinnest phone on the market while also taking battery issues into question, it doesn’t leave much room for extra chips.

All that said, when Samsung announced the Galaxy S4, they unveiled a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 version for the U.S. and another, more powerful version with Samsung’s in-house 8-core processor. The U.S. didn’t get the latter. Emphasis: past tense. It appears that the 8-core Galaxy S4 has made the jump across the pond according to Android Beat’s Stefan Constantinescu. Unfortunately, in that same jump, LTE has been cast aside, you know, because of all the issues touched on above.

Question is, is 8-cores really that much of an improvement over four, especially when you consider loosing super speedy LTE and having to rollback to HSPA? Mind you, HSPA isn’t nearly as fast here as it is in many places of Europe.

Still, if you think it’s worth the concessions, Newegg is more than happy to sell you an 8-core Galaxy S4 for $620 (Newegg link). Any takers?
