Exciting Revelations in Pittsburgh Technology

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Pittsburgh has had a successful year in the area of technology. Ranked seventh regarding its high number of tech employees, Pittsburgh is constantly looking for new ideas in the field. It is no wonder that Pittsburgh news in technology is teeming with innovations to help the community with many technological advances.

Project Lifesaver Program

When it comes to the well-being of those family members who need monitoring for their safety, technology has taken a step forward in this city. In the community of Munhall, the police department has made the effort to help locate missing persons such as children with mental deficiencies or the elderly with dementia, by providing tracking bracelets for identified “wanderers”. By picking up certain frequencies emitted by each individual bracelet, the police can identify the missing person and find them within minutes. Using such technology to help save lives is a worthwhile measure taken in Pittsburgh.

Technology for Communication

Unfortunately, many people in the Steel City cannot communicate orally due to afflictions such as cerebral palsy or autism. With a new technological communication device used locally, these people are now able to communicate spontaneously in a give and take conversation just as most people are able to do. PRC is the company producing the devices, but even greater advances are developing that will provide less expensive apps that can be downloaded onto a tablet or iPad. Tap Speak is one such app that was developed by a man in Pittsburgh and is making those without a voice be “heard”.

Technology Afloat

Imagine graduating from North Allegheny High School and having the opportunity to develop an advanced form of 3D technology to help navigate waters at night. The native Pittsburgh man, Marek Lapenski, is helping develop such technology that will help barges on local waterways prevent casualties during fog, rain, and other low-visibility situations. With the 3D technology, the ability to use any camera along with the new software to present images in 3D allows the navigator to judge the situation using depth perception. This 3D technology is making our local waterways a much safer environment during nighttime voyages.

Pittsburgh news in technology is exciting to say the least. With so many talented local technology professionals in the city, new advances in this area are occurring every day. From improving the area’s safety to people’s quality of life, technology continues to develop making this a great place to live and grow.
