Facebook Revamps Its News Feed For The Web

Facebook is all set to roll out a redesign to its News Feed that puts a greater focus on images. The social network is tweaking the News Feed almost exactly a year after it announced an experimental version.“Today we’re rolling out an updated look for News Feed so that desktop and mobile will look the same, making Facebook more consistent and easier to use across platforms”, said Facebook in company blog post.

The redesign is not a major one but it does get enlarged photos and different fonts. The “Update Status,” “Add Photos/Video,” and “News Feed” icons have been redesigned. Tabs to switch between News Feed, Most Recent, and other feeds has switched from the right side of the page to the left side. It can be accessed by clicking the arrow next to “News Feed” on the left sidebar. Another noticeable change is that all users will now see a big search bar at the top of their screen. English-speaking Facebook users will see a Graph Search bar, where they can type in queries like “Friends of friends who are single.

The changes simply offer a visual refresh, and do not affect how Facebook surfaces content to people, or how stories are ranked in your News Feed. Facebook tweaked its algorithms to show off a modified News Feed last month. The social network touted that the new look will not impact the way stories or ads are surfaced.

Facebook Product Manager Marra stated that internal metrics and user surveys made it clear some of the changes to the News Feed last year were too complex and not preferable for many people. The latest redesign will roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
