Karbonn To Launch Dual OS Smartphone With Android and Windows

Smartphone maker Karbonn is all geared up to launch a smartphone that will support Windows Phone along with Android.

“Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows phones in about three months,” said Karbonn chairman Sudhir Hasija in a TOI report. He added that the phone is targeted for office-going professionals and ‘techies’.

The company, which deals in Android-based smart phones, has recently signed an agreement with Microsoft for license to use Windows operating system in its mobile device.   The company currently imports its products from Taiwan and Korea, but is planning on opening a manufacturing facility in India.

Karbonn is the third largest mobile company in India as as per IDC, behind Samsung and Micromax with a market share of 10 percent. The company is not yet putting any price tag on the phone which is expected to launch some time in June. No further hardware or specification details about the dual OS smartphone were provided by the company.

In January this year, Micromax unveiled its first laptop at Consumer Electronic Show Las Vegas 2014.The ‘LapTab’ is a dual-boot Android and Windows 8 tablet. Microsoft is trying to target the mod level smartphone market which is currently ruled by Android. Also, the company is striving hard to convince users to undergo the shift from Android to Windows. However, I am not sure if people are ready to adapt to two different operating systems in one single phone.
