Micromax Announces Partnership With Aircel and Mediatek, Eyes $1 Billion in Revenue

Micromax is expecting to earn $1 billion revenue by end of this financial year, reports PTI. The second largest smartphone maker in India held about 16 percent market share in Q4 2013, as per figures by IDC.

“We have seen huge growth in business, especially in the smartphone category (mid and entry-level). We expect to close this fiscal will a billion in revenues. We will introduce a product based on Android Kitkat within the next 60 days,” Micromax co-founder Vikas Jain told PTI. Yesterday, India’s third largest smartphone maker Karbonn launched three smartphones that are powered by Android KitKat.

The homegrown smartphone maker, started in 2008, roped in Hollywood actor Hugh Jackman  in October last year,to expand its footprint across the globe. Micromax which is a popular brand among youth in small towns began its international operations in Russia in January this year. 

With an aim to boost its offerings even further and meet the growing data demands, Micromax also announced partnership with Aircel and Mediatek. Under this deal Aircel will be offering an array of special data plans while MediaTek will offer its chipsets for powerful user experience. The offers will be initially available across four Micromax devices — MMX 377G (dongle), Funbook Mini 410i, A090 and X070.

“This (partnership) is aimed at offering the best out-of-the-box experiences for the Indian users and the partnership will see a unique amalgamation of the expertise of the three companies,” added Jain.  Micromax touted that the products with new offers will be available starting April 2014. For starters, users of Micromax dongle MMX 377G will be getting free 2GB data per month for first three months, after which users will be receiving double data value on every recharge for next three months.

With the yet-to-be-launched Micromax Funbook Mini 410i tablet, users will be getting benefits for three months which include free 1GB data per month, while for local calls 1.2 paisa/2 seconds charge and 1.2 paisa/second for STD calls. The company is also offering WAP content worth Rs. 10,000 and a free Popkorn TV app. In addition to this, the company which makes low and medium end affordable smartphones is offering data and calling discounts.
