Hyginex, a US based healthcare technology has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Persistent Systems. The funding will help Hyginex to expand its footprint in US and foray into international markets. Founded in 2008 by Shiva Swami and Efrat Raichman, Hyginex has developed a bracelet which helps doctors and hospital staff improve their  hand hygiene practices. The bracelet alerts and reminds the user to wash their hands.

“Through this investment, Persistent would be able to help us reach our goals of making significant changes in improving patient safety and increasing quality standards in healthcare facilities,” Hyginex CEO Shiva Swami said. The Hyginex wristbands collect all data and upload automatically to a server where managers and staff members can generate reports and track progress.

“Hyginex’s unique approach based on innovative wearable technology protects patients in hospitals and improves global healthcare. To this investment in Hyginex, Persistent brings its expertise and focus on emerging medical technologies,” said Sridhar Jagannathan, head of Persistent Venture Fund.

The investment has been made through the company’s recently launched Persistent Venture Fund. This is the third investment for the fund which invests between $100,000 to $250,000 (Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore) in a round. It had invested in US-based startups ustyme, a free, video-call app for iPad and healthcare technology firm DxNow in December last year.

In January this year online Healthcare startup OurHealthMate had received a seed funding of $440K in seed funding from angel investors. Also, healthcare startup eVaidya secured Rs 3.5Cr from a group of investors.
