Sony LIV Partners With BoxTV To Make Its Content Available On The Platform

Premium video on demand service, Sony LIV has announced that it has partnered with Times Internet’s BoxTv. Sony LIV content will now be shared on BoxTV’s website and will be available for its users across the world.

Going to down to the specifics of what this deal means, it seems that BoxTV will now get access to current and historic shows from the stables of Sony Entertainment Television and SAB. According to their release, Sony LIV will now make available the content which it has produced since 18 years. All of this will not happen immediately but will progress at the rate of 10-12 shows a week coming to BoxTv. The content will supposedly cover different genres like Drama, Comedy, Thrillers etc. Besides these shows which were originally produced for TV, Sony LIV is also planning to provide web only content which has a smaller time duration and is being termed as ‘Quickisodes’ or ‘Short Crunch’ episodes.

BoxTV and Sony LIV both aim to provide content online to users across devices. The primary difference between them is that BoxTV is an aggregator while Sony LIV only has content from the SAB and Sony Entertainment Channel. This one way sharing of content might mean that the content could see more value on BoxTV’s platform instead of residing solely on the Sony LIV platform.

Nitesh Kripalani, EVP of New Media at Sony Entertainment Network says that Sony LIV has had 82 million downloads so far and is getting 4 to 5 million views. BoxTV  has expanded its content offering in a short time to include 14000 hours of content which spans various formats like movies, TV shows, documentaries, short films etc. Both of them are early players in a segment which will definitely be bigger than TV in a few short years.
