Wearable Device Startup RHLvision Manages To Raise $ 200K From Crowd–Funding Platform Indiegogo

RHLvision Interactive LLP has managed to secure over US$ 200,000 in funding and it has managed to do so via crowd–funding platform Indiegogo.

Kochi based RHLvision (RHL stands for Robotic Human Logic), a wearable device startup, has managed to raise US$ 202,551 via Indiegogo. The funding amount is being claimed to be the highest ever raised by an Indian startup through a crowd–funding platform. At the close of the funding round, 1,161 individuals had pledged their money in lieu of the product that will soon enter production. The company has already raised an undisclosed amount from Delhi-based healthcare services provider Malik Radix Healthcare last year.

What does RHLvision offer? The two year old startup, incubated by the Startup Village from the same region, has developed a gesture-based wearable device called Fin. Though the name may remind our readers of another company Gecko, that we covered last year, who had developed a fin–like device which added gesture control to smartphones, RHLvision’s Fin is slightly different.

Fin has a much broader applicable base, as in; it can be used to control a wider variety of devices like TVs, Music Systems, Lights, Smartphones, etc. Basically, any device that is connected (either to a network or internet) and can be synched with Bluetooth can be controlled.

Essentially Fin is a Bluetooth enabled and driven device. It resembles a thumb–ring and is able to judge the distance, speed, orientation and tilt of the thumb to translate into computer–readable commands. Using the same, users can execute a number of functions like punching in a number (the palm becomes an imaginary dial–pad), a simple swipe can be programmed to switch channels or change volume. Even the Music System or the Air Conditioning unit in the car can be controlled using fin, if one can successfully connect and program the functions.

Crowd funding platform Indiegogo and others like it, are now slowly being explored by Indian companies to raise capital. Majority of the funding rounds involve offering the product from the first batches, at discounted rates and other exclusive memorabilia. Interestingly, there are no laws governing crowd–funding in India and this could be skillfully used by many promising startups to kick–start their businesses. What do you think?
